Present conditions of the education system of Bangladesh and my

opinion about developing the standard of education

With due respect, I wish to share some experience and opinions about our present
education system. I believe that quality education would make qualified human resource
to develop our country. At present we have multidimensional and complex problems in
education system. A vicious cycle of crisis is created here. As a result there is a small
degree of progress after several decades of liberation. The poor situation of our education
system is known to all of us. The budget for research and development in education
institutions is poor. We do not have enough teachers having skills and professionalism.
Most of the teachers of government schools neglect school classes and encourage private
coaching classes. In rural areas this condition is worse. There is glamorous display of
artificial results in public exams that creates illusion of progress. But in reality, there are
severe serosis inside. Students do not study properly thinking that, making A+ grade is
quite easy! Our present society considers education as product and the teaching
profession as great business. Those who have good amount of money can buy this
product and others don’t have sufficient right over it. They are facing discrimination for
not having enough money. I have seen that talented students want to be doctors,
engineers or corporate professionals. But nobody wants to be a teacher in future. We find
only few good teachers in our schools and colleges.
As is had an opportunity to serve in education sector for several months, I wish to express
some opinions how to overcome this deadlock situation.
The government has taken some good initiatives like creative system, digital and updated
books, multimedia contents, TQI projects etc. To harness their benefits, we need more
work and emphasis on them. I recognize that there are some institutes and facilities that
aim to overcome this bad situation, but their activity should be available all over the
country so that we can have a visible progress within few years. There should be
adequate training and development programs for all resource persons who are engaged in
education system. Teachers should be given more freedom and opportunity to apply their
creative ideas. Our talented students should be nurtured with vision so that some of them
would become teachers in future!
