COMPARISON OF INDIAN AND OVERSEAS . .

BASIC SIZES FOR SHEET AND WIRE -

( First Revision)
0. FOREWORD \ “.

&I This publication ( Fit Revision ) was adopted by the Indian Stand-
ards Institution on 25 une 1982, after the draft finalized by the Metal
kadardsfktional rl, mmittee had been approved by the Structural
and Metal Wvirion Council.

lb2 For rpacicying the thickncsa of sheet and &am&r of wire,’ different
countries have adopted different lvier of basic sizes, most of them
being designated by gauge. numbers. Thir Indian Standard, giving
comparison of different systems was first published in 1868, to assist the
users in industry .and trade and for simplification of international trade.
As Birmingham Wire Gauge or Stub’s Iron Wire Gauge ( BWG ) is widdy
used by the industry, it has been decided to include BWG in this revision.
0.21 This publication inclttdu .. Indian and overseas (British,
American, French, German, Japanese and Russian ) standard sizes for
thicknesscr of sheet and diameters of wire.

g.5 For the information of the usem, the names of gauges used in overseas
countries and the producta for which these gauges are mainly used are
given in Appendix A.
