Statement Of Purpose

To put it bluntly, I’ve always thought of philosophy as something

extraneous. For the longest time, I couldn’t fathom why it exists and
what was worse, I have a father who is a philosophy enthusiast.
Channeling my teenage angst to disprove him, I reluctantly did what
philosophers usually do – ask why and my ninth-grade self, high on
unearned confidence, started with a book called Sophie’s world, and
very expectedly, philosophy put in there didn’t give her answers. But
much to my surprise, it gave me better questions and more
importantly, made my life way more interesting than it was. Being
introduced to philosophy made me think deeply, three-dimensionally,
and critically. Such an inquiry led me to read about Buddhism,
Nietzsche’s nihilism to barely understanding what Immanuel Kant
meant in his Critique of Pure Reason (which I solely began to read to
boast to my friends). It brought a deep-seated curiosity to my routine,
a puzzle of sorts.

This background to my love for philosophy is exactly why I want to

be a part of the Executive Committee. I consider myself genuinely
interested in the subject and considering how abstract philosophy is,
to work for it concretely, even with mundane bureaucratic exercises
would mean showing how deeply I care about the subject. More
importantly, in any capacity, I would be more interested in making
other people be captivated with philosophy and I see being a part of
this Committee as an instrument to that.

I hope I am deemed a fit candidate for the post. But even if not, I am
genuinely excited about the discussions that are going to take place in
the Club, and I hope to meaningfully contribute.
