Introduction
This Service Letter contains information about the requirements for a proper
functioning of the flexView operator interface software.

Background
The flexView software is not supported by the latest Microsoft operating systems
– i.e. Windows 8 – currently delivered with new Personal Computers (PC).
Incompatible Operating Systems (OS) make flexView unavailable as input
system for user parameters (e.g. for lubricating oil feed rates) and source of
information in case of operational problems (trends, failure logs etc.).

Requirement for personal computer

In order to ensure that the flexView software is running correctly, the PC on
board needs to fulfil the hardware and software requirements as listed hereafter.

Hardware
Central Processing Unit (CPU)
The following values are the minimum requirements:
• Intel Core 2 Duo
• Clock 1.66 GHz
• HDD or SSD flash hard drive 16 GB
• Memory RAM 2 GB
• Graphic adapter with dedicated memory (min 256 MB required)

Drive
• CD or DVD-ROM

Interface
• 4x USB (USB to CAN, USB access key, Mouse, Keyboard)

Screen
• Resolution 1024x768 pixels (minimum requirement)

WinZip
WinZip is optional

Attention:
To protect the PC from virus attacks it is essential that besides the OS only the
flexView software is installed and executed. Wärtsilä cannot guarantee a proper
execution of the flexView software in case that two or more programs will be
executed at the same time. Due to the high amount of computer resources which
the flexView software needs, Wärtsilä propose to use a dedicated PC.

System check
Before installing flexView it is recommended to check the hardware and system
properties of the personal computer and verify it with the requirements listed in
this Service Letter.

Recommendation in case of PC replacement

In case the existing PC in service needs to be replaced Wärtsilä recommends
proceeding as follows:
• Acquire a PC which fulfils the requirements as listed in chapter “Hardware”.
• The OS must fulfil the requirements as listed in Table 1.

Note:
To ensure the compatibility with modern Windows OS Wärtsilä is currently
working on a flexView upgrade that shall be available by mid 2014.
