What is a Lingua Franca?

A lingua franca is a common language used by people of


diverse backgrounds to communicate with each other. It is
also known as a trade language, bridge language, and
also vehicular language.

The use of lingua francas may be almost as old as the


language itself. Certainly, they have existed since antiquity.

Why is English called Lingua Franca?


It is considered to be the world's Lingua Franca since
English is used as the major language in many
countries worldwide. English is also known to be the
native language of many countries around the world and is
being used in dealing with economic and political trades.

Swahili, Tok Pisin, and Nahuatl, and mainly the
English language.

English as a Lingua Franca


English as a Lingua Franca (ELF) refers to the use of
English as a means of communication between people with
different first languages, from the 18th century, English has
begun to become the most spoken language in the world,
outpacing other European and world languages.
How the English Language Spread
The spreading of the English language began with
colonialism. It was brought by British settlers and
descendants, through England’s conquests.
Both world wars have facilitated the use of the English

languages, English and French, increased the diplomatic
statue of English.

English is currently the dominant foreign language
in Japan, being taught in schools from the fifth
grade onwards. There is also great demand for native

Japan has a unique way of bending the English language

and start to understand the building blocks of the language.

used in the Japanese language and are usually used to
write words that are originally Japanese. Some of
Hiragana’s words actually represent the English language
aswell.

Do Japanese use hiragana or katakana more?


Hiragana
is the most commonly used, standard form of
Japanese writing. It's used on its own or in conjunction
with kanji to form words, and it's the first form of Japanese
writing that children learn.

While in Japan the English Language is used as a secondary


language and not a Lingua Franca (The Japanese
language) but they have taken example’s from the English
Language and made adjustments according to their needs.
And it is used as a way of writing and a trading language,
and that language is Hiragana.
