LEARNING OBJECTIVE By the end of the lesson, students should be able to:

1. Understand a variety of texts by using a range of appropriate reading strategies


to construct meaning
2.Use appropriate communication strategies
ACTIVITIES PRE-LESSON Students are asked to think of all the different activities a mobile
phone can be used for. Then students continue with the pre-
reading Activity A in the Student Book. Students discuss their ideas
with their talk partner(s) before collecting ideas as a class.
LESSON DELIVERY Activity A (Students Book page 14)

1.Students asked to read through the questions and a short


discussion are initiated.

Activity B (Students Book page 14)

1.Students pay attention to the title of the text as well as to the


pictures accompanying it. Students asked to tell what the text is
about. Students asked to look at the layout of the text and tell
where it may be found. Students asked to look closer at the
advertisement accompanying the text. Some questions are asked.

Activity C (Students Book page 14)

1.Students refer to the text and they pay attention to the


highlighted words/phrases in it. Students asked to try to guess
what they mean. Students asked to read the meaning 1-7 and do
the activity. The answers checked with the class.
POST LESSON Students play word bingo using the highlighted words from the
text. Students have their books closed. Students are given red and
green cards (red to show False, green to show True). They will say
one of the highlighted words and read a meaning from Activity C
(either the right one or a different one). Students show true or
false using the appropriate card.

LESSON DELIVERY Activity 5 (SB page 81)

1. Students read the dialogue first. Teacher plays the CD.


Students listen and follow the text in their books. They
write answers 1-4 in their notebooks. They compare
answers in pairs. Teacher check answers as a class.
Activity 7 (SB page 81)

1. Students work individually. They copy the questions in


bold into their notebooks. They look at the information on
page 80 again and choose a different place from Nina to
get to in Manchester. Students write answers to the
questions.
Activity 9 (SB page 81)

1. Students practise their dialogues in pairs. For extra


practise, they swap roles in both dialogues.
Activity 10(SB page 81)

1. Teacher chooses some pairs to act out their dialogue for


the class. Students raise their hand if another pair has the
same destination as they do. This will encourage them to
listen carefully to their classmates.
