1.

Steps in wastewater treatment include collection, screening and straining, chemical addition,
coagulation and flocculation, sedimentation and clarification, filtration, disinfection, storage,
and distribution.
2. The MBBR system consists of an activated sludge aeration system where the sludge is collected
on recycled plastic carriers.
3. Aeration may be used to remove undesirable gases dissolved in water (degasification) or to add
oxygen to the water to convert undesirable substances to a more manageable form (oxidation).
4. Aeration basin is where wastewater is fully nitrified nitrogen as ammonia and removing 99% of
ammonia, bod, phosphorus for 3-5 hours.
5. Aeration is a process sometimes used in preparing potable water
6. Another method of aerating water is to disperse the air into the water. Both absorption and
desorption are enhanced by maximizing the interfacial area, in this case by minimizing the air
bubble.
7. Air-in-water systems consist of tanks 2.5 - 5 m deep thru which the water flows. Air is then
injected thru a porous bottom or thru spargers near the bottom.
8. Sedimentation and clarification are commonly used interchangeably with regard to the
preparation of potable water.
9. Separation may occur by flotation if water is denser than solid matter.
10. In the preparation of potable water, virtually all solids requiring removal are heavier than water,
therefore, sedimentation with gravity as the driving force is the most common separation
technique.
11. Long-rectangular basins are commonly used in treatment plants processing large flows.
12. Circular basins have the same functional zones as the long-rectangular basin, but the flow
regime is quite different.
13. The creation of a solids blanket is an important part of an up-flow clarification.
14. The jar test must be performed on each water that is to be coagulated and must be repeated
with each significant change in the quality of a given water.
15. Softening is a process of reducing hardness commonly practiced in water treatment.
16. Digesters to break down organic materials into methane and carbon dioxide.
17. Sludge judge is used to measure how much blanket or settlements are in the bottom.
18. During disinfection, WWT plant uses UV light to kill microorganisms.
19. Treating a wastewater can usually take up to 24 hours.
20. With the help of wastewater plant, the quality and safety of water has improved over the years.
