Antonino Contiliano, Italy

A poet and essayist, interested in art
criticism.

The poetic collective group ‘Noi Rebeldía’ was born in

2010 from the poet Antonino Contiliano’s idea (former
creator and director of the 3 books Compagni di strada
caminando, ’Elmotel blues and Marcha Hacker-risata
cyberfreak). Initially composed of a small group (3/4 poets
plus the Sicilian painter Giacomo Cuttone), thanks to
theWorld Wide Web, the group has extended the number
of members and its network throughout Italy (keeping
Marsala, Rome, Naples and Florence as main centers). The
literary writing of the group, strongly oriented to poetry
as a privileged means of communication and inspired by a
Marxist criticism (referring, in particular, to Lukács,
Jameson and Adorno), proceeds by ‘anonymization’.
K M ANTHRU INTERNATIONAL
LITERATURE PRIZE 2022
GOLDEN THREE

The central focus is to achieve a collective and anonymous

poem: starting from an incipit created by one poet, the
other members of the group engage with further stanzas
(limited lines in free form), using the mounting procedure.
Without knowing the identity of the one who precedes his
verse, the strophic connection takes place at a time. The
rules, public and binding, are disseminated by mailing list
and online publication, including
http://www.retididedalus.it. The identification details
provided during the sending of the text are disclosed only
at the conclusion of the work without being linked to the
contribution given, but placed all together in alphabetical
order at the end of the text. Therefore, no participant may
declare individual ownership, both for the completed text
and for parts of it. The complete work must be recognized
by everyone as property of all (without specifying their
contribution).
At the end of the period of production of the texts, which
usually lasts about four months, the poets agrees on its
ultimate form, which will subsequently be published in
paper form (CFR ed.).

Iván Argüelles, US
K M ANTHRU INTERNATIONAL
LITERATURE PRIZE 2022

Iván Argüelles, US
An innovative Mexican-American poet

At 83, Iván Argüelles has had a career which began in

brilliant Surrealist work such as Instamatic
Reconditioning and The Invention of Spain (both 1978)
and then went on in a constantly changing, constantly
inventive way to works such as “That” Goddess (1992) and
Madonna Septet (2000)—stunning long poems which
maintain some sort of connection to the Surreal but which
move far beyond anything that can be categorized in any
such terms. Argüelles’s work is wide-ranging, restless, full
of “references”—the author’s learning is immense—but
also immediate, astonishing, visceral; his work
communicates before it is fully or, indeed sometimes
even partially, “understood.” Poet John M. Bennett insists
that what Argüelles produces “is not really ‘literature’ as
the term is commonly understood” and asserts that we

must read it “with a new mind-set”: “one has to allow

oneself to be ‘drowned’ in the ocean of this stunning and
protean work and be receptive to all the ambiguities and
contradictions it contains.” Argüelles’ own word for his
work is “Enigma.” Like the Irish James Joyce, who took the
oppressor’s language, English, and simultaneously
attacked and redefined it, this Mexican-American poet has
done amazing things with the American language,
attacking it for its deadness (twisting it out of all
recognition) but, simultaneously, glorifying it for its
plasticity, its openness to the new. Argüelles does precisely
what I believe the litterateur should do: be aware of
tradition, the past––know what poetry is––but, cast a new
light on what has gone before.

These lines are from Argüelles’s early poem, “The Life of

Sancta Doucelina.” They suggest the great effort and
accomplishment of this brilliant poet as they have
manifested throughout his career. “Redefining World”:
“to lift my entire body / from the hard earth.”

in each animal there is the same

beginning and we see in each being
the creation and the light of the first day
if I extend my one arm into the air
it is to lift my entire body
from the hard earth

Rosa Jamali, Iran

Rosa Jamali, Iran

Poet, Playwright – redefining literature

Rosa Jamali , the poet through broken syntax and word-

play, describes a surreal world which words have lost their
meanings and have become jumbled objects within
contemporary everyday life.
She adapted a kind of music from classical Persian poetry
and imbued it with the natural cadences of speech,
juxtaposing long and short sentences.
She creates some layers of intertextuality with Persian
Mythology and mysticism. Her works have always been
strictly engaged with the forms and conscious of styles in
poetics, digressing in between various literary styles and
traditions.Experiencing crystal, condensed and language-
based imagery taking its inspiration from the style of
visionary writings of Persian transcendentalists like
Suhrawardi ... Rosa Jamali’s poetry also enjoys a rich
influence of English poetry.
K M ANTHRU INTERNATIONAL
LITERATURE PRIZE 2022
GOLDEN THREE

Notably, her third collection MAKING COFFEE TO RUN

A CRIME STORY is a re-reading of male-narrative love
stories in a post-modern narrative. This lengthy dramatic
poem at the beginning of the book has references to the
image of misogyny in Sadegh Hedayat’s literature; the
chopped off woman in the Blind Owl. She has taken
inspirations from the life of women who have been slayed
because they wanted to write or tell a story, like the life of
the first female poet in Persian Rabia Balkhi who was
killed by her brother for writing love poetry, crime
against women is quite come in Iranian society and has
been well-portrayed in this long dramatic poem.
The play “THE SHADOW” by Rosa Jamali is not a
feminist play as it explores women’s issues in Iran and is
not a problem unique to Iran.
K M ANTHRU INTERNATIONAL
LITERATURE PRIZE 2022
GOLDEN THREE

The problem presented in this play can be seen in other

parts of the world as well. It is noteworthy to analyze the
impact of the poet, playwright and litterateur Rosa
Jamali’s and/or similar group of writer’s influence in the
Iran society to bring a change in the current sociopolitical
scenario.
In the drama, you could see a conversation regarding
time. The writer is reminding us that if we wait, we will
lose opportunity and, from the perspective of the drama,
the time is slipping away from the hands of the women.
There are obsessions in their speech for some women
suffer from obsessive-compulsive disorder. Writer has
purposefully not haven’t set an exact place or time. Rosa
speaks metaphorically.
Rosa Jamali, the Iranian poet, represents all poets who pen
against discrimination of any kind in this world.
