CTW 122 MASONRY AND REINFORCED CONCRETE WORKS

ASSIGNMENT
NAME: ARTHUR V. LANUZO JR COURE AND SECTION: BSCE- 1B

1. Give at least 5 different materials for masonry available in your locality.

SAND - One of the most widely utilized varieties of sand in

construction is mason sand. Construction and landscaping
Masonry sand (also known as masonry sand or Sand that is fine
and frequently used in building is called mortar sand. The
characteristics of this sand uniformly sized grains give it a smooth
appearance and feel.

HALLOW BLOCKS - An object formed of concrete with empty

spaces between its walls is called a hollow concrete block. Hollow
blocks are created using the same materials as poured concrete
walls and are used to construct a variety of walls for a variety of
purposes, including retaining walls, decorative walls, traditional
walls, etc.

GRAVEL - Consists of a scattering of loose rock pieces. Gravel is

produced in huge amounts for industrial use as crushed stone,
but it also occurs naturally across the world as a result of
sedimentary and erosive geologic processes.

CEMENT - a building chemical that dries, hardens,

and sticks to other materials to hold them together.
Cement is typically used to bind sand and gravel
together rather than on its own.

CONCRETE - is a mixture of sand, gravel, crushed rock, or other

aggregates kept together in a mass that resembles rock by a
cement and water paste.
2. Enumerate at least 5 different structures (w/ pictures) available near your residence.

MUNICIPALITY OF NABUA CAM. SUR

STO. DOMINGO DE GUSMAN PARISH CHURCH. NABUA CAM SUR.

2.5-km flood control structure completed in Camarines Sur

Waras River in the municipalities of Sta. Elena and Sta. Lucia.
HOLY CROSS PARISH CHURCH, NABUA CAMARINES SUR

VICTOR BERNAL HIGH SCHOOL, SAN VICENTE OGBON NABUA CAM, SUR
(JUNIOR AND SINIOR HIGH)

3. Explain why reinforced concrete is stronger and durable than any other materials.

Comparing reinforced concrete to other building materials, it has a high

compressive strength. As a result of the reinforcing that is there, reinforced
concrete can also endure a significant amount of tensile stress. Reinforced
concrete has a passable level of fire and weather resistance. Concrete that has
steel implanted in it so that the two components work together to resist stresses
is known as reinforced concrete. The tensile, shear, and occasionally the
compressive stresses in a concrete structure are absorbed by the reinforcing steel
—rods, bars, or mesh. Plain concrete does not easily withstand tensile and shear
stresses caused by wind, earthquakes, vibrations, and other forces and is
therefore unsuitable in most structural applications. In reinforced concrete, the
tensile strength of steel and the compressive strength of concrete work together
to allow the member to sustain these stresses.
