Introduction

Food label:
A food label, the information presented on food product, is one of the
most important and direct means of communicating information to the
consumer. The internationally accepted definition of a food label is
any tag, brand, mark, pictorial or other descriptive matter, written,
printed, stenciled, marked, embossed or impressed on, or attached to,
a container of food or food product.
To be in simple words, A food label, the information presented on

communicating information of the consumer.
When was it introduced first?
U.S. became the first country to enact mandatory food labeling in
1913 when it passed the Gould Net Weight Amendment to the 1906
Act.
Declaration of Nutrient Content. Final regulations for both agencies
were published on January 6, 1993, that mandated nutrition labeling
in the form of a Nutrition Facts panel on most packaged foods.
FSSAI:
Food Safety and Standards Authority of India.
Food Safety and Standards Authority of India is a statutory body
established under the Ministry of Health & Family Welfare,
Government of India. The FSSAI has been established under the Food
Safety and Standards Act, 2006, which is a consolidating statue
related to food safety and regulation in India.

FSSAI:
The Food Safety & Standards Act, 2006 defines Food Safety as an
"assurance that food is acceptable for human consumption according
to its intended use."
Rules:
FSSAI labelling rules mandate the mention of the details related to the
calories of the food product on the label. It should mention calories
received from trans fat, saturated fat, sodium, cholesterol dietary
fiber, carbohydrates, protein, sugar, iron, calcium, vitamin A, and
vitamin C contained in the product.
Work:
The contents or Information presented on the label should be clear,
prominent, memorable, and readily legible by the consumer.
