A communication aid is anything that helps or aids an individual
communicate more effectively and efficiently. It is not essential
for the user to be able to read text in order to use a
communication aid. Many aids are symbols or picture-based and
still provide full functionality in order to communicate with
others.

some situations where a communication chart or book may be
inadequate, for example on the phone, or when talking to other
