1. Let the number of patients arriving at a Govt.

hospital follow Poisson distribution with

mean 10 per half an hour. Generate 6000 samples each of sample size 100 from Poisson (10).

The 6000 samples are generated using excel random sampling and are attached separately.

BS Project Q1.xlsx

i. Find the sample mean for each sample generated.

The sample mean for each of the sample ranges from 8.84 to 11.29

ii. Plot the histogram of the sample averages.

The histogram for sample averages is

iii. Calculate the mean and variance of the sample average.

The mean of sample averages is 10.0007 and the variance of sample average is 0.0927.

iv. Fit a normal distribution with an appropriate mean and variance on the sample averages.
The normal curve fitted is
v. Test the goodness of fit.
For the goodness of fit we used Chi-Square Test method and the value of same came to be
31.0696.

vi. Summarize all the results.

The sample means are from 8.84 to 11.29.
The histogram of sample averages show a normal distribution.
The mean of sample averages is 10.0007 and the variance is 0.0927.
The normal distribution curve fitted is shown above.
The chi-square value for goodness of fit test is 31.0696

3. The distribution of patients for each doctor of a hospital is given below:

3 8 12 18 23
0.1 0.2 0.4 0.2 0.1

Draw 3000 random samples each of size 80.

All the calculations are attached in this file

Ans 3.xlsx

i. Sketch the distribution of the sample average number of patients.

ii. Find a 89.9% confidence interval of the sample average number of patients.

For 89.9% confidence interval Z = 1.645 and the corresponding values have been calculated in
excel file.

iii. Draw a graph to show all 3000 confidence intervals.

iv. Fit a normal distribution with an appropriate mean and variance on the sample averages.
v. Test the goodness of fit.
The chi square value for the sample is 86.4417

vi. Summarize all the results
