EXPERIMENT #2

“Do Chemical and Physical Changes Differ?” Date:

I. Objective
Classify changes as chemical or physical

II.Materials
Tongs Dropper Candle
1 tbsp of coffee 1 tbsp of salt baking soda
Chalk colored paper vinegar
Bleaching liquid spoon cotton
3 vials/small bottle

III. Procedure
1. Read each direction carefully. Make an observation before, during and after the change. Record the observations
in the Data Table.
2. Hold the cotton with the tongs and place it into the flame. Remove the cotton from the flame, set aside to cool.
3. Label bottle 1. Add atleast 50mL of water into the bottle #1, using a spoon put the salt into the bottle #1.
4. Label bottle 2. Add atleast 50mL of water into the bottle 2, using a spoon put the coffee into the water.
5. Using colored paper, cut it into medium size of paper. Put it into an empty bottle and pour the bleaching liquid
(zonrox). Observe what happened to the colored paper.
6. Break the chalk into two and then pulverized it using your shoe.
7. Hold the spoon with water and put it into the fire until it’s gone.
8. Label bottle 3. Put vinegar into it approximately 30mL to 50mL. Using your spoon, add 1 spoon of baking soda,
observe what happened to the solution.
