APPLICATION AND ASSESSMENT

Activity 1.1
1. Using the principles of logical reasoning and critical thinking, explain your stand on the
following ethical issues
:
A. Divorce in the Philippines

- Marriage is regarded as a sacred union between a man and a woman,

thus, it must be cherished and value with love. Reality tell us that there
are many failed, unhappy marriages across the nation. One of their
options to solve these problem would be the divorce. Marriage is never
as blissful as people expected. Divorce is never as devastating as people
imagine. But divorce gives people a fresh start to lead better lives.
Living in a marriage where love, respect, friendship, and compatibility
are gone is a life without hope.
B. Death penalty in the Philippines

- I believe that the death penalty is not the best way to address criminality
in the Philippines. Aside from the fact that it is inhuman, from a spiritual
and moral standpoint, though most criminals violate it, life must be
preserved regardless of the condition that define someone’s personality,
whether he or she is a criminal or a noble person. People changed.
C. Same sex marriage in the Philippines

- I believe that same sex marriage is okay as long as both of them is not
violating any rule or hurting someone. Everyone can choose what they
can do on their lives and we have a freedom to choose love either it is a
boy or girl. And everybody deserve a happiness and to be loved and be
in loved to someone we truly loved.

Activity 1.2

Watch the movie ANAK which is a Filipino family drama film directed by Rory Quintos and
starring Vilma Santos. The movie is a depiction of the ethical dilemmas that OFW parents face
and endure to provide for their family. Write your reflections on and insights drawn from the
movie.

Nobody is perfect, including mothers. She fights for the happiness and well-being of her family.
But, as a person, she makes mistakes for a reason. In return for what they have given, a child
should love and respect his or her parents. A child is the one who supports the mother and must
understand his or her mother’s sacrifices. This film is about a parent and a child who face a trial
due to communication gaps between the daughter and the mother. Its moral lesson revolves
around understanding how parents try to make a living for their children. The sacrifices one must
make in order to provide a better future for her children and meet their needs. Many people in
our country have worked abroad in the hopes of bettering their lives and achieving success, much
like the main character in the film. Children must comprehend all of their parents’ difficulties.
