national Plan for teaching Swimming

All three swimming pools follow the Amateur Swimming Association (ASA) National Plan for Teaching Swimming (NPTS), which aims to provide high quality swimming lessons within a safe environment as well as providing children and adults with an experience through aquatics. The NPTS is an all-inclusive programme which takes the non-swimmer from his/her first splash to developing confidence and competence in water. The NPTS is a national syllabus for aquatics, which equips learn to swim providers with the training and tools to deliver a multi aquatic, multi skill programme. Once children have completed their core range of skills required to be confident, competent and safe in water within the swimming lesson programme, they have the opportunity to develop their aquatic skills further through a variety of aquatic avenues.

Parent & Child Swimming Classes*

These sessions are an ideal opportunity for parents to introduce very young children to basic water skills in a safe and fun environment. Children will develop independence within the water environment through songs and games. They can also learn the basics of floating, submerging and build their confidence within the swimming pool. These classes are an excellent introduction to water and build confidence in readiness for the children to begin their learn to swim lesson programme. PLEASE NOTE that if your child is not yet out of nappies, swim nappies must be worn in the swimming pool. Conventional nappies become water logged and can weigh your child down. They can also be a potential hygiene problem as they are not able to contain small accidents within the pool environment. Water proof nappies can be washed and re-used, and are available for purchase at all leisure centres just ask at reception. All children should wear appropriate swimwear i.e. trunks/costumes clothing such as long shorts are not allowed. Children are asked to tie all long hair back and take off any jewellery. For hygienic reasons children if needed should use the toilet and always shower before entering the swimming pool.

Adult Swim Lessons

Everyone knows how important it is to learn to swim and this applies to adults as well, especially with an increase in families holidaying abroad at the seaside. Conquer your fears and begin doing all those aquatic sports you have always wanted to do and that includes joining in with your children at the seaside or in the swimming pool. Age should not be a barrier if you want to learn to swim, that is why we have no age restrictions on enrolment onto our adult swimming lessons. Our programmes are designed for adults who lack water confidence and are non-swimmers. We also cater for confident swimmers who want to improve their technique and also work on additional skills and stamina so there are classes for everyone.
