Knowledge Understanding Identify the three types of rocks
Skills Analyzing Classify rocks as to igneous, sedimentary, and metamorphic rocks
Attitude Valuing Verbalize the importance of rocks in our daily life

My learning objectives focus on the WHOLE CHILD. It means it centers on the
totality of the aspects of the leaners. It encompasses the cognitive, skills,
attitude, and emotions of the students. Once these objectives are achieved,
the learners are believed to have learned and used their human potential and
capabilities such as creativity, personal growth, and choice. It allows then to
work INDEPENDENTLY and COLLABORATIVELY with their peers. (Humanism
Approach to Teaching- Learning)

2. OICHRPMMTEA
3. NEUSOGI
4. CANOLOV
5. TCISSCAL

4.3 Analysis 1. How do you find the activity?

(3 minutes) 2. How do you classify the rocks?
3. What are the 3 types of the rocks
4. What are the importance of these rocks in our lives.

These process questions stimulate the students to THINK COGNITIVELY, INDEPENDENTLY

DECIDE on how he feels about the activities, and on what answers he can give without being
judged and being wronged. Humanism Approach to Teaching- Learning
4.4 Abstraction Plenary Activity
(15 minutes)  The teacher presents the first type of Rock – Igneous Rock.
Igneous- formed from hardening and crystallization of magma or molten material that
originates deep within the earth.

Two types of igneous rock:

A. Extrusive/Volcanic rock - forms when magma makes its way to Earth’s surface as lava and
then cools. The crystals are very small (fine-grained) since the cooling process is fast.
B. Intrusive/Plutonic - It cools slowly beneath the Earth surface and are created by magma. The
intrusive igneous rocks have very large crystals (coarse grained).

Igneous rocks are classified based on

1. Composition- it refers to rock’s mineral and chemical make-up.
Felsic – igneous rocks that are light in colors, feldspar, and silicates
Mafic – dark-colored igneous rocks made up of magnesium, calcium, and iron
Intermediate – refers to igneous rocks between mafic and felsic composition.
Ultramafic – denotes igneous rocks that composed chiefly of mafic minerals.
2. Texture - overall appearance of a rock based on the size, shape, and arrangement of interlocking
mineral crystals.
Aphanitic – fine-grained rocks with crystals seen by aid of microscope.
Phaneritic - coarse-grained rocks
Porphyritic – large crystals with small crystals
Glassy - a rock that looks like colored glass with no visible mineral crystal.
Pyroclastic- results from explosive fragmentation of volcanic material.
Examples: Obsidian, pumice, basalt, granite, diorite, gabbro

4.5 Application Where should I belong?

(15 minutes)  The teacher calls a learner to classify an igneous rock accordingly to its type. (Intrusive or
Extrusive)
 The teacher checks the classifications of the rocks and corrects gently as needed.
4.6 Assessment Paper and Pen (Formative Assessment)
(10 Minutes Classify the igneous rocks according to its texture by checking the appropriate row.

4.7 Assignment Draw or create a model showing the 3 types of rocks with 2 rocks in each classification.
(3 minutes)
This gives the learners the EXPERIENCE that they can be TRUSTED TO Create or Draw
independently the 3 types of rocks. It provides them the opportunity to practice
INDEPENDENT LEARNING at home. Humanism Approach to Teaching- Learning

3 Types of Rock- a science song - YouTube

4.8 Concluding
Activity Summary: What are the 3 types of rocks based on the song?
(2 minutes)
This song activity stimulates the FUN and INTERST of the students as they sing along with rock
song together with the video. The concepts are being reiterated as a summary. Learning is
achieved in another way. Although my students are SHS, yet the child in them is being awaken
as they ENJOY the activity. Humanism Approach to Teaching-Learning
5. Remarks
6. Reflections
A.  No. of learners who earned 80% in the evaluation. D.  No. of learners who continue to require remediation.

B.   No. of learners who require additional activities for remediation. E.   Which of my learning strategies worked well? Why did this
work?
C.   Did the remedial lessons work? No. of learners who have caught up F.   What difficulties did I encounter which my principal or
with the lesson. supervisor can help me solve?
