The Water Cycle
What do you
wonder about
today’s topic?
What did you learn from
this problem?
1. What is the function of
water in our daily life?

2. Where does water

flow?

3. Can water run out?

Water has been around for
billions of years

Please do Activity 1.
Water gets recycled over
and over again

What is the Water Cycle?
Transpiration
Evaporation
Condensation
Precipitation
Accumulation
This is the water cycle!
condensation

transpiration precipitation

evaporation

accumulation
“Transpiration”
the evaporation of water from plants
“Evaporation”
The conversion of water from a liquid to a gas

Solar energy drives evaporation

of water from the ocean.
The evaporated water changes
from a liquid form into
water vapor a gaseous form.
“Condensation”
The transformation of water vapor back into liquid water by cooling

Evaporated water is
warmed and rises into
the air where
it eventually cools and
condenses to form
clouds.
“Precipitation”
Rain, hail, or snow falling from the clouds
due to the condensation of water

When clouds become

very heavy with
condensed water, the
water is released
in the form of rain, hail,
or snow.

With enough
condensed
water, you get
rain!
“Accumulation”
The collection of precipitation into rivers, lakes, and oceans.

This completes
the water cycle!

● Carbon is repeatedly recycled within

● This amount is sufficient for all plants that

● CO₂ is removed from air by green plants.

● It is replaced through respiration by the

combustion of fossils fuels.
NITROGEN CYCLE

● Passage of nitrogen within an ecosystem

● Nitrogen cycle is more complex biogeochemical c

● Nitrogen fixation by nitrogen bacteria.
● Bacteria free living or living in root nodules of
leguminous plants.

● Denitrifying bacteria converts nitrates to nitrogen gas. Bacteria are anae
Process is known as denitrification.

● Photosynthetic organism make use of nitrates to form amino acids & pro
which are in turn eaten by animals.

● Protein are broken down to amino acids in animals.

● Nitrogen in amino acid is excreted in the form of ammonia or urea.

● Decomposers break down protein molecules in dead animals and plant

● Release nitrogen as ammonia or ammonium compounds ammonificatio
