OU.19 VaUsTs uF es Methods of improving the efficiency The efficiency of the open cycle gas turbine is poor due to losses sf energy in the compressor and turbine. Part of the losses is due to friction ip the bearings but major part of the losses of energy of the gases takes place when the gases travel through the compressor and turbine bladings. There are three methods for improving the overall efficiency of an open cycle gas turbine : (i) Regeneration (ii) Reheating of the working gases, and (iit) Intercooling of the compressed air. @ Regeneration. Regeneration consists of pre-heating the com pressed air before it enters the combustion chamber. Pre-heating of the compressed air is done by passing it over a heat exchanger, called “Regenerator”, The heat available for this purpose in the Regenerator, derived from the turbine exhaust gases that pass through it and thus the net heat rejected to the atmosphere is reduced. This, in turn, reduces He fuel consumption and thus improves the cycle efficiency. ¢ ) ‘ Wy SE pe yee SS PUTING:
