PROJECT LIFE CYCLE
▪ Project Life is a series of phases of a
project from initiation to
completion.
▪ The life cycle gives a practical
approach to problem solving
applied to all aspects of a project.
▪ Phases in a project life cycle
encompass sequential and
overlapping phases.

Initiation/Conception
FIRST PHASE:
PROJECT
INITIATION/
CONCEPTION
F
I
R
S The first step in transforming an intangible notion into a
T worthwhile objective is the project initiation phase. The project
charter is a crucial document that includes information on the
P project's limitations, objectives, selection of the project manager,
budget, anticipated schedule, etc.
H
A
S
E
F
I
R Determine the main project stakeholders, or the
S individuals who will be involved in the project, after you know
T the project goals and the project scope. Make a list of the
responsibilities, titles, impact, and communication
requirements of the stakeholders.
P
H Although the project's aim is clearly defined at this
A phase, a project charter does not include any of the technical
S specifics that are worked out during the planning phase.
E
SECOND PHASE:
PROJECT
PLANNING
S
E
C The Project planning stage may be the most critical, as
O it sets the foundation of the entire project. At this point in the
N project, the project team will be tasked with defining the
D project itself, identifying timelines, and uncovering the
project's scope from beginning to end. It is essential not to
P forget the budget.
H The budget is calculated, detailed, and authorized
A during the planning phase. The budget plan needs to receive
S the proper amount of attention from the project team.

S
E
S
E
C During this stage, the areas where planning is needed are as
O follows:
N
Project Plan
D ➢

➢ Resource Plan
P
H ➢ Risk Management Plan
A ➢ Communication Plan
S
E ➢ Acceptance Plan
S
E
C During the planning stage, the team may anticipate seeing the
O following documents:
N
Scope Statement and Documentation
D

➢ Work Breakdown Structure

P
Costing Summary
H ➢

A ➢ Communication Strategy
S
E ➢ Risk Management Strategy
THIRD PHASE:
PROJECT
EXECUTION
T
H The execution phase is the main phase of the project. It is
I the stage of the project where everything the team has
R planned is put into actions.
D
As per planning, the following are to be performed in this
P phase;
H ➢ Time, Cost, and Quality
A
S ➢ Risk and Issues
E ➢ Procurement
T
H
I
R The Project Manager is responsible in the execution
D phase. The following responsibilities are as follows;

➢ Project Deliverables
P
➢ Status Review
H
A ➢ Problem Solving
S
E
FOURTH PHASE:
PROJECT
MONITORING AND
CONTROLLING
F
O
U Importance of Project Monitoring and Control
R
T
The project monitoring and control process aims at tracking and
H
reviewing the project and is undertaken from the initiation of the
project to its closure. Various activities performed during this process
P assess if the project is being run in accordance with the established
H plan.
A
S
E
F
O
U In this phase it will be more focusing on these criteria just like :
R
T ➢ Project objectives

H ➢ Quality Deliverables

➢ Effort and Cost Tracking

P
H ➢ Project Performance
A In order to guarantee that goals and project deliverables are
S completed, the project monitoring and controlling phase runs
E concurrently with project execution.
F
O
U
The manager is also accountable for
R
T quantitatively tracking the effort and expense
H incurred throughout the process during the
monitoring phase of project management. This
P
tracking is crucial for current projects as well as
H
A ensuring that the project stays under budget.
S
E
F
O
U In conclusion, Project monitoring and control process helps to tract
R and review all metrics and tasks required to make sure that the
T authorized and approved project is on time, within budget, and on
H budget. Besides, the process ensures that the project work is carried
out with minimal risks. Therefore, it is vital to master these activities
P and follow them accordingly to guarantee the achievement of the
expected outcomes.
H
A
S
E
FIFTH PHASE: POST
CONSTRUCTION
/PROJECT CLOSING
F
I
F The project closure phase of the project is the last step
T in the long process of designing and completing a construction
project. Now that all the work on the job site has been
H
completed, the project will come to a close.

P Project close-out involves more than just completion

H of the punch list. The resources required for the project are
A demobilized, equipment rentals are returned, the worksite is
S cleaned up, and subcontractors that have completed their jobs
E move onto other projects.
F
I
F Final Inspections
T
Prior to the final inspections and walkthrough, all items
H

on the punch list should be completed. A punch list is a

document that defines all contract specified items that
P
need immediate attention before completion of
H
A payment to the contractor.
S
E
F
I
F Turnover to the owner
T
➢ There is no hard stop within the construction process.
H
Therefore, there is a substantial period of time that
allows for proper handoff and turnover to the owner.
P
This assures that the owner is comfortable operating
H
every facet of the newly constructed structure.
A
S
E
F
I
F Turnover to the owner
T
H ➢ A General Contractor should always offer
continued support when handing over to the
P owner. This support will consist of an ongoing
H dialogue and assistance between the GC and
A the owner.
S
E
F
I
F Turnover to the owner
T ➢ Within the turnover phase, the GC and client will
H develop a plan for continuity of expansion or other
build-outs that are necessary. With future build-outs,
P it’s crucial to provide a continuity plan, so the
H
structure as a whole is operational.
A
S
E
F
I
F Seasonal testing and Final review
T ➢ It is necessary to revisit the structure and test to make sure
H it performs up to standards in every season.

➢ The last step within the post-construction stage is a final

P
review. One year after the it opens, it is custom for a final
H review to take place. A final review consists of tests that
A ensure the structure is still performing up to standards.
