 Lastly, arises the problem of the Moral Machine Dilemma.

While AI does its best to emulate human

decision-making systems, there are cases where it becomes difficult to determine the correct choice
between two equally unfavorable decisions. For example, if faced with a situation, should an AV drive
left into a pedestrian and harm them or drive right and hit a tree which may injure the passengers?

SLIDE 8:
- On March 18, 2018, a self-driving Uber ran over a pedestrian in Arizona. This incident is a reminder that autonomous
vehicular technology has a long long way to go before it becomes widely accessible to the public.
- Accidents happen, it's only natural, people said. But it's important to note that human driving causes only 1 fatal incident
every 100 million miles. Uber’s self-driving cars had only driven a few million miles before the fatal accident. Thus
proving that Uber’s driving record is much worse than a human’s.
- The same year, a Tesla driver was killed while using autopilot mode due to a collision with a concrete wall.
- These weren’t the only accident involving self-driving cars and pedestrians and they won’t be the last.

SLIDE 8:
- Adding on to that, AVs are predicted to have awful impacts on the environment even though they are seemingly
engineered to be “fuel efficient”. They’re simply releasing more emissions than ever before.
- Club that with the dangerousness on the road, self-driving cars simply don’t feel worth it.

SLIDE 9:
- These facts may incite some pessimism, but there is no reason that these issues can’t be solved with adequate research
and efficient data collection along with deep learning mechanisms.
- So, let’s look up and keep hoping for cars that are safer, cheaper and simply better for us and the environment.
