Carbon Equivalent
 The carbon equivalent
(CE) is used to
understand how the alloys
mentioned above affect
the hardness of the steel
being welded. There are
many different CE
formulas, but the two
most commonly used are
those accepted by the
AWS &IIW.
Carbon Equivalent
Carbon Equivalent
 CE (IIW) formula is
generally accepted.ASME-
IX,QW403.26
 The AWS formula is
slightly more restrictive
because of this extra term.
 A formula used to
account for the effects
of alloying elements in
a given material.
Carbon Equivalent
 LIBS(Laser Induced
Breakdown
Spectroscopy) can be
utilized to help
accurately and
repeatedly capture
carbon content as well
as automatically
calculate (C.E%)using
a prescribed formula
via pseudo element
feature.
