Lesson Plan in Science 8

Newton’s Laws of Motion

June 25, 2019

I.CONTENT STANDARD: The Learners demonstrate an understanding of the Newton’s three

laws of motion and uniform circular motion
Learning Competency: Relate the laws of motion to bodies in uniform circular
motion(S8FE-Ib-18 )

Learning Objectives: At the end of the lesson, learners should be able to define circular motion
and relate the laws of motion in uniform circular motion

II. SUBJECT MATTER: Uniform Circular Motion

SCIENCE IDEAS AND CONCEPTS:

 Uniform Circular Motion is the motion of objects following a uniform circular path at
a constant speed.
 Centripetal Force- the force that must act on an object to keep it in a circular path.

SCIENCE PROCESSES:
Basic: Observing, Inferring, Communicating
Integrated: Identifying variables, Making inferences

VALUES INTEGRATION: Safety in circular motion

III. LEARNING TASKS

A. Elicit
Ask students the following questions:
1. Who wins a tug-of-war,those that pull harder on the rope or those who push harder
against the floor?
2. Give some applications of the Laws of motion

B. Engage
The teacher will demonstrate a simple experiment.
1. A plastic water bottle will be cut into half, filled with water halfway and then tied
with a string in three equidistant side of the circle. The the teacher will make the set-up
into a sling, showing a circular motion.
2. Students should predict whether the water will spill over or not before the
experiment?
3. Students will verify their predictions after the experiment.
4. The teacher will solicit explanations as to why the water did not spill during its
circular motion.

C. Explore
1. The students will video showing circular motion
2. They will answer the following guide questions:
3. What was the direction of motion of the object?
4. Describe the speed of the object while in motion?
5. What do you think is the force that keeps the object in its circular motion?
6. How do you relate the circular motion to Newton’s Laws?

D. Explain (Day 2)
1. The teacher will discuss the answers to the guide questions.
2. The teacher will discuss the relationship of circular motion to Newton’s Laws.

D. Elaborate
Students will answer the following question:
1. How can we relate uniform circular motion in our daily lives?
2. How to be safe in travelling in a circular motion?
F. Evaluate

G. Extend
1. Students will find the definition of Centrifugal Force.
