EDUCATIONAL RESEARCH: A QUALITATIVE PERSPECTIVE

Overview:
Educational research is the need of the hour, however, not many educators are familiar with
common educational/qualitative research methods and rely solely on quantitative research
methods. The famous saying by the sociologist William Bruce Cameron that, “Not everything
that can be counted counts, and not everything that counts can be counted”, emphasizes the
importance of qualitative methods.
Qualitative research allows investigators to develop a deeper understanding of a topic than
can be obtained through quantitative research alone. Qualitative research methods provide an
opportunity for a systematic, detailed evaluation of a question that may not be easily
answered through quantitative methods. Furthermore, these methods can add to quantitative
results through explanations and clarifications with the target population
Learning Outcomes:
By the end of this workshop, the participants will be able to:

 Develop a basic understanding of educational/qualitative research methodology.

 Discuss the major educational/qualitative research designs.
 Explore techniques for collecting, analyzing, and interpreting qualitative data.
 Appreciate the ethical aspects of educational/qualitative research
