Through Prediction Strategy at the Second Grade Students of SMP Negeri 7 Kota
Sorong (Guide by Rizal Akib and Yuliana A)

The objective of this study is to improve reading comprehension of the second grade
students at SMPN 7 Sorong through Prediction strategy. (1) to found out whether the
prediction strategy can improved the students reading comprehension. The study
was conducted on the second grade students of SMP Negeri 7 Kota Sorong. The
sample of this study was class VIII which consisted of 30 students in academic year
2020. One group pretest and posttest was used as the design of the study. The
instrument for collecting data were reading test and multiple choice. The test was
reading test in form of multiple choice consisting of 33 items, and the essay 5. Pre-
test and posttest were used to see the difference of students reading comprehension
achievement before and after being taught through prediction strategy. The data
were analyzed using paired sample t-test and the hypothesis was tested using SPSS
version 26. The result showed that there was an improved of students’ reading
comprehension achievement after being taught through prediction strategy. It was
proven by the improve of students’ mean score from pre-test (53,33) to post-test
(76,33), and The average score for control group was 57,00 (pre-test) and 71,33
(post-test). It can be concluded that prediction strategy gave positive impact to the
students in improving their reading comprehension in English descriptive text.

Tujuan dari penelitian ini adalah untuk mengetahui apakah strategi prediksi dapat
meningkatkan pemahaman membaca siswa kelas dua SMP Negeri 7 Kota Sorong.
Penelitian ini dilakukan pada siswa kelas dua SMP Negeri 7 Kota Sorong sampel
penelitian ini adalah VIII yang terdiri dari 30 siswa pada tahun akademik 2020. Satu
kelompok pretest dan posttest digunakan sebagai desain penelitian. Itu instrument
untuk mengumpulkan data adalah tes membaca dan pilihan ganda. Tes itu tes
membaca dalam bentuk pilihan ganda yang terdiri dari 33, dan esai 5. Pretest dan
posttest digunakan untuk melihat selisih antara membaca siswa pahami pretest
sebelum dan sesudah diajarkan melalui prediksi strategi. Data analisis menggunakan
paired sample t-test dan hipotesis diuji menggunakan SPSS versi 26. Hasil
penelitian menunjukan bahwa ada peneingkatan pemahaman membaca siswa
prestasi setelah diajarkan melalui strategi prediksi. Itu terbukti oleh peningkatan
nilai rata-rata siswa dari pre-test (53,33) ke posttest (76,33) dan skor rata-rata untuk
kelas kontrol adalah 57,00 (pretest) dan 71,33 (post-test) dapat disimpulkan bahwa
strategi prediksi memberikan dampak positive kepada siswa dalam peningkatan
pemahaman bacaan mereka dalam teks deskripif bahasa inggris.
