However, most lines have been damaged and out of service since 2014 due to natural disasters like typhoons.      PNR South Long Haul Project, is often known as the Bicol Express or PNR Bicol.

     
     During its peak in the 1970s, the PNR was running on 1,100 kilometers from La
    Union in the north to Legazpi in the Bicol region. The Bicol express Philippines
    has been in despair and aging. Most of the lines are now damaged and out of
    service since 2014 dahil sa mga natural disasters lalo na sa mga bagyo. In order
    to promote local economic development and reduce commuting costs, the
    Philippine government decided to repair and construct the line.
