KINDS OF EXERCISES

 1. RESPONSE EXERCISES are of broken type. The students move only when the next
count or command is given.

2. RHYTHMIC EXERCISES - are continuous. They follow a definite cadence and until
the command for stopping is given. The rhythmic movement is started with the
command "ready-begin" and it is stopped with the command "class-halt"

PARTS OF COMMAND

 FIRST PART - Preparatory command. Tells the class what part of the body is to make
movement and in what direction the movement is to be made.

 SECOND PART - Command of execution. Tells the class what to do.

BODY MOVEMENTS

 TYPES OF BODY MOVEMENTS

 1. THE AXIAL MOVEMENTS (Non-locomotor) are movements done by a part or


several parts of the body in a stationary place.

 2. THE LOCOMOTOR MOVEMENTS are movements that bring the performance from
one place to the other.

a. Walk, run, hop, skip, leap, jump

How to count in rhythm when giving exercises

A. 16 counts
A-1-2-3-4-5-6-7-8-8-7-6-5-4-3- and halt!
B-1-2-3-4-5-6-7-8-8-7-6-5-class halt 1-2!

 B. 32 counts

A-1-2-3-4-5-6-7-8-8-7-6-5-4-3- and again. 1-2-3-4-5-6-7-8-8-7-6-5-4-3- and halt!

B-1-2-3-4-5-6-7-8-8-7-6-5-4-3 and repeat. 1-2-3-4-5-6-7-8-8-7-6-5-class halt 1-21


GLOSSARY OF WORDS OF COMMANDS

 1 FACE- To turn the whole body to right ot left or about, without changing place

 2 BEND- To flex or bend a joint

 3 CIRCLING-Moving the part prescribed in a circle

4 DRESS- To look in the direction commended and see that the line is straight

 5 FLING- To throw or raise the arms very quickly.

 6 HALT- To stop walking, running, or doing a certain movement.

7 HOP- To spring on one foot and land on same feet in any direction

8 JUMP- To spring on one foot or both feet and land on both feet in any direction

9 LEAP- To spring on one foot and land on the other foot in any direction

10 MARCH- To start walk

 11 PLACE- To put the hands in a certain position or place of the body

 12 POSITION- To stand attention in fundamental position with the feet parallel and
close together, arms at the side, trunk erect and eyes front

 13 RAISE- To lift the part of the body prescribed straight up in the direction
commanded

 14 REST- To stand at ease as you like, but keep one foot in its place

 15 ROTATE- To turn the part prescribed around its long axis

 16 SIDEWARD- To move in a straight line to the side

17 STRIDE- To brace the feet apart with a distance of the individual's own two-foot
length the heels

18 STRETCH- To extend a flexed joint

 19 TWIST- Torsion of the head or trunk

 20 SWING- To move continuously from one point to the other
