Questions 31-34: Read the following passage and choose the best answer.
Getting around London
By underground
The London Underground, usually called 'the tube', is enormous and can take you
everywhere
quickly. However, it is hot and uncomfortable in the summer, and can be confusing for
tourists, who often get on the wrong train. It can also be very crowded in the 'rush
hour' (7.00-
9.00 in the morning and 5.00-7.00 in the evening).
By bus
The buses give you a good view of the sights, especially if you travel upstairs, but if the traffic
is bad, your journey can take a long time. Special tickets, called travel cards, can be used on
both buses and the underground and are quite economical.
By taxi or car
Taxis are excellent, but very expensive. Never take a car into central London - it's nearly
impossible to park, and you also have to pay a congestion charge (currently £5) every time you
drive into the centre.
31. When is the underground usually very
busy?
A. 5 a.m. – 7a.m.
B. 5 p.m. – 7 p.m.
C. 7 p.m. – 9 p.m.
D. 5 p.m. – 9 p.m.

32. Where is a good place to sit to see the

sights?
A. On the underground
B. Upstairs on a bus
C. On a taxi or car
D. All the answers are NOT correct.
33. Where can you use travel cards?
A. On buses
B. On the underground
C. On taxi
D. Both A and B are correct.

34. What's the problem with taking a taxi?

A. It’s not cheap.
B. It’s difficult to park.
C. You have to pay a congestion charge.
D. You cannot go into the centre.

(T), FALSE (F) or have NO INFORMATION (NI).
The day I met Nicole…

Last Thursday I went to London with two friends from my language school. It was a
very special day because it was my 21 st birthday. After we arrived in London, we went to
Italian café in Leicester Square and had coffee.
Then we went to the theatre to see a play called The Blue Room. I wanted to see it
because my favourite actress, Nicole Kidman, was in it. We sat in a box and had a very good
view. The play was really good and Nicole Kidman was wonderful.
When the play finished, we went for a meal in a Japanese restaurant near the theatre. It
was quite crowded, but the food was great. We had sushi and salad — it was very nice. After
the meal, my friends gave me presents, and then the whole restaurant sang Happy Birthday!
After we left the restaurant, we walked past the theatre again — and there was Nicole
Kidman, I went over and said hello and she was really friendly to me. We talked for about five
minutes, and then my friends took some photos of me and Nicole together.
When I got home, I emailed all my friends in Japan and told them about my birthday. I
also sent them the photos of me and Nicole! It really was a night to remember.
