Inbreeding
1. What is Human Inbreeding? What causes Human Inbreeding?
The process of pairing genetically identical species is known as inbreeding. It's linked to
family ties and incest in humans, where close relatives have sexual encounters and have
children. Although it is against modern social norms, inbreeding is fairly frequent in
animals and plants. The cause for the Human Inbreeding is because of the cultures that
continuous to practice this taboo.
2. What are the signs and effects?
• Reduced fertility
• Reduced birth rate
• Higher infant and child mortality
• Smaller adult size
• Reduced immune function
3. What cultures practice inbreeding? Why?
There are Brazil, Japan, India, Israel, and Pakistan. Since its part of their culture, they
think that its nice to keep all the family members literally family, so that they can be
together and support each other.
4. Indicate the risks of inbreeding.
• Increased of cardiovascular disease
• Increased facial asymmetry
• Increased genetic disorders
• Increased mental abnormalities
5. Who are the Whittakers? What is the story behind?
Whittakers are inbred family who lives in Odd, West Virginia. They are the most famous
inbred family in the United States. The reporter, Mark Laita, still cannot confirm if their
parents were related but Lorraine, Freddie, Ray, and Timmy are part of the inbreeding
because of their mental and physical abnormalities.
6. What are the effects seen from the Whittakers?
The effects that can be seen from the Whittakers are the abnormalities in their physical
appearances and some of them has difficulty in talking like Ray and Timmy. It can also
be seen that they have mental abnormalities, the way they interact with Mark Laita.
7. Conclusion
To be honest, I never heard of the human inbreeding. I only know that other people tried
to have a relationship with their relatives but not to the extent that they will build a
family. Although I know that there are Muslim families that would marry their relatives
and multiple wives, but I still wasn’t aware that they mate. It is disturbing for me to
watch those videos because of their situations and the thoughts of the people that thinks it
is okay to inbreed humans. In conclusion, I think human inbreeding needs to be stop and
remove from the cultures of the other region/country because the risks and effects that
happens to them, which they are experiencing their whole lives, is saddening.
