SUPPLEMENTAL TIME LIMITS/MAINTENANCE CHECKS

SCHEDULED MAINTENANCE
Prepared by DAS-605786-NM

GENERAL

This document contains the manufacturers’ recommended time limits for inspections, as well as both
scheduled and unscheduled maintenance checks and inspections for the components installed during the
modification of this aircraft. This document is supplementary to the Learjet 31 Time Limits/Maintenance Checks
manual.

Scheduled maintenance, time limits, and inspections are provided in a column format. This information also
cross-references detailed procedures in the associated Supplemental Maintenance Manual.

This document along with BAS-31010025-IFCA-1 (Rev. B), and those listed therein, constitute the IFCA.

ORGANIZATION

Components in this document are organized by MDL and major ATA sections, under their associated STC.

The scheduled maintenance section of this document is presented in three columns:

• The first column identifies the applicable chapter, section, and page number (if applicable) in the
Supplemental Maintenance Manual (SMM) published for the aircraft. If no SMM reference is given, the
maintenance task is adequately described in this document.

• The second column of this section contains the system/component description with an outline of
maintenance tasks under each item.

• The third column of this section contains the inspection interval for each maintenance task.

INSPECTION INTERVALS

Some inspection intervals are the manufacturers’ recommended time periods, while other inspection intervals are
determined by the aircraft completion center. These intervals may include a single asterisk (*) or double asterisk
(**) beside the inspection interval. A single asterisk (*) identifies the manufacturer’s recommendation. A double
asterisk (**) appears when two alternate intervals are specified. When a double asterisk (**) is shown, the earliest
attained interval is applicable. These codes are also explained in footnotes appearing at the bottom of each page.

IS&S ALTIMETER/ADDU

1. DESCRIPTION
The IS&S (Innovative Solutions & Support) altimeter/Air Data Display Unit (ADDU) combines the
features of a standard static pressure altimeter with an air data computer. This unit is interfaced to the
existing FC-531 autopilot and provides altitude hold, speed hold, Mach hold, vertical speed hold, altitude
preselect, and altitude alert functions. The altimeter display can be set in feet or meters. The barometric
pressure can be set in inches or millibars.

A TEST button on each unit initiates the Initial and Self-test function. Refer to ADJUSTMENT/TEST for
details.

The pilot’s altimeter/ADDU has a backup 28VDC input from the existing emergency battery for operation
when normal aircraft power is interrupted.

The altimeter/ADDUs are interfaced together and to an Analog Interface Unit (AIU) via an RS-422 data
bus. The AIU is connected to an annuciator/switch panel. This annunciator/switch panel has an AIU FAIL
annunciator and ADC 1 and ADC 2 annunciator/switches that allow either ADDU to be selected as the
active altimeter for auto-pilot inputs and altitude encoding data that interfaces to the transponders.

The existing radio altimeter is interfaced to the annunciator/switch panel assembly to allow activation of a
Decision Height (DH) light on each altimeter/ADDU. An ALT light on each unit illuminates and an altitude
alert tone sounds in conjunction with the operation of the altitude alerter function of each ADDU.

A standby altimeter is installed to provide an independent emergency backup altimeter when normal
aircraft power is interrupted. Emergency lighting power is provided by the existing emergency battery.
Each pilot’s instrument lights dimmer switch has been replaced with a new switch to interface each
altimeter/ADDU’s lighting to the existing dimmer system. Control relays K901 and K902 have also been
added.

Wiring provisions are installed on both altimeter/ADDUs to interface to the following optional equipment:
• Gillahm altitude encoding
• Digital ADC
• Barometric altimeter potentiometer
• Temperature probe (No. 1 only)

2. LOCATION
The altimeter/ADDU computer units replace the existing pilot’s and copilot’s altimeters. The standby
altimeter is installed in the center instrument above the existing NAV/COMM controls. The ADDU
annunciator/switch panel assembly replaces the altitude alerter and is installed above the standby
altimeter. The AIU is installed in the nose compartment aft of FS107.38, BL0.00. Relays K901 and K902
have been added to an existing relay panel in the copilot’s sideledge between FS184.78 and FS196.99.
Table 1 lists the system circuit breakers and the units protected.

IS&S ALTIMETER/ADDU - FAULT ISOLATION

1. INTRODUCTION
A. Purpose

The section provides fault isolation information for the IS&S Altimeter/ADDU (Air Data Display
Unit).

B. Equipment and facilities required

(1) Equipment

• Digital voltmeter
• Milli-ohm meter

(2) Facilities

• External power (if available)

C. Reference documents

(1) Learjet 31 Aircraft Maintenance Manual (AMM)

(2) Learjet 31 Wiring Diagram Manual, Chapter 20, Standard Practices

2. JOB SET-UP
A. Verify that all circuit breakers are closed on all circuit breaker panels, except those necessary for
ground safety.

B. Connect ground power to the aircraft per Learjet 31 AMM.

3. PROCEDURE
A. General

(1) Air Data Display Unit

The ADDU performs continuous, automatic checks (built-in test - BIT) of the major functional
blocks of the system. If BIT detects a fault, the ADDU shall (when possible) make
operational adjustments to prevent display of misinformation or total loss of altitude display.

The ADDUs perform automatic checks on the signal returned from the internal pressure
transducer and the temperature sensors against the known signal range. If the signal
exceeds these parameters or if the self-sensing altitude source is unavailable, the ADDU will
park the altitude pointer at zero and display OFF on the altitude display. If the altitude pointer
remains at a position other than zero, this indicates a fault in the pointer positioning
hardware or monitoring circuits. The ADDU is unusable in these situations and should be
removed and serviced.

BAS-31010025-SMM-1 (Rev. B)

Feb 8/05
SUPPLEMENTAL MAINTENANCE MANUAL
Prepared by DAS-605786-NM

In the event that a fault in the microcontroller in the ADDU is detected, the microcontroller
shall attempt to blank the altitude digital display.

The ADDU will display the STBY flag to indicate that the Static Source Error Correction
calibration data has detected inaccurate data. If this happens, the ADDU will display
uncorrected altitude data (no SSEC correction applied).

(2) ADDU Installation Configuration Faults

When power is initially applied, the ADDU shall determine whether the installation
configuration selected (ADDU connector pin jumper strapping configuration) represents a
valid selection. If the selection is invalid, and the indicated airspeed is less than 40 knots, the
ADDU shall display dashes instead of autopilot model, aircraft type, installation position, and
system installation type (Duplex) in the installation configuration verification display and
leave it displayed until one of two actions is taken.

(a) Power to the unit is removed and corrective action is taken to ensure valid and
matching (i.e. - identical aircraft type, autopilot model, duplex installation, and SSEC
application status.) installation configurations are implemented and then power is re-
applied. The proper ADDU connector pin jumper strapping configuration is shown on
the wiring diagram for the altimeter system.

(b) If the aircraft Press-to-Test switch is pressed, with the ADDU mis-configured, the unit
will extinguish the installation configuration verification display, present the display
test, and when the Press-to-Test switch is released, the ADDU will present
uncorrected altitude (no Static Source Error Correction (SSEC) correction applied).
The ADDU will output invalid information to the Analog Interface Unit, the ARINC 429
data will be invalid, and the analog outputs will be invalid. The ADDU will display the
STBY flag on the display to indicate that there is no SSEC correction applied.

If the selection is invalid, and the indicated airspeed is increased to greater than 40 knots,
the ADDU shall extinguish any configuration display or display test if present, the ADDU will
present uncorrected altitude (no SSEC correction applied). The ADDU will output invalid
information to the Analog Interface Unit, the ARINC 429 data will be invalid, and the analog
outputs will be invalid. The ADDU will display the STBY flag on the display to indicate that
there is no SSEC correction applied. Thereafter, the ADDU will not display the installation
configuration display until power on the ADDU is cycled.

(3) ADDU Fault Codes

The ADDU performs continuous, automatic checks (built-in test - BIT) of the major functional
blocks of the system. If BIT detects a fault, the ADDU shall (when possible) make
operational adjustments to prevent display of misinformation or total loss of altitude display.
Diagnostics are performed and associated fault codes are retained in non-volatile memory
for support equipment recall. Three of the fault codes can be viewed during display test.
Normally, if the ADDU had a fault in the displayed codes, the unit will display OFF on the
ADDU display, however, if the fault is intermittent, the fault code will be displayed in the fault
code history. If a fault code is displayed, this indicates that the ADDU had a fault in the
indicated area (Table 101):

DISPLAYED FAULT CODES

TABLE 101

Use the following procedure to access the ADDU fault codes:

(a) Press the recessed TEST button on ADDU (lower right of ALT SEL knob. A pencil may
be needed to press the button). The altitude counter displays the number of hours the
altimeter has been in operation for 2.5 seconds, then the display is blanked for 1
second. The display test starts and the pointer is sequenced through cardinal points (0
to 9); concurrent to the Altitude Counter and Baro Counters displaying digits
corresponding to the pointer position. The right most digit of the digital altitude and
selected altitude display will display the digit 0 for digits 0 thru 9. The Baro Counter's
left most digit displays digits: 1, 2 and 3 only and digit 3 for 3 thru 9. The display
legends and flags (STBY, M, ft, IN.HG, hPa, PWR, COM, AND A) will be illuminated
for the duration of this sequence. (Approximately 10 seconds). Press the TEST button
before the end of the display test and the ADDU will display each fault code (if any) for
2.5 seconds as a result of the continuous automatic BIT.

(4) Analog Interface Unit

If the Analog Interface Unit (AIU) fails, the amber AIU FAIL light located on the ADC Switch
Panel will illuminate. If the AIU FAIL light illuminates, this could mean that either the AIU has
failed or that the selected ADDU, which is determined by the ADC 1/ADC 2 Switch located
on the ADC Switch Panel, has stopped communicating with the AIU. If the AIU FAIL light
illuminates, select the opposite ADC to determine if the failure is with the AIU or the
communication from the ADDU with the AIU. If the light extinguishes, this means that the
data bus wires coming from the ADDU to the AIU are not connected properly or that there is
a failure of the ADDU to communicate with the AIU. If the light remains on, and both ADDUs
are operational, this is usually an indication that the AIU has failed. A failed AIU will render
the autopilot incapable of coupling to vertical modes and the analog outputs from the AIU will
be invalid.

4. JOB COMPLETION

Introduction

SUPPLEMENTAL ILLUSTRATED PARTS CATALOG

Prepared by DAS-605786-NM

GENERAL

The Supplemental Illustrated Parts Catalog (IPC) is used to identify line replaceable parts installed during the
modification of the aircraft. This catalog is a companion document to the Supplemental Maintenance Manual
that describes the aircraft modification(s). For information regarding replacement part numbers of
production-installed equipment, please refer to the original production manuals.

This document along with BAS-31010025-IPC-1 (Rev. B), and those listed therein, constitute the IFCA.

ORGANIZATION

The format and organizational structure of the Supplemental IPC is based on the ATA-100 specification. Each
chapter contains subsections that begin with a title page and are identified by a six-digit ATA number. Parts are
listed in their applicable ATA-100 chapters and sections.

ILLUSTRATIONS

Illustrations precede their corresponding parts list. The figure title corresponds to the associated parts list.
Illustrations may include a detail bubble which leads to an enlarged view on the same or the following page.
The enlarged view will be identified by the same detail bubble shown on the parent illustration. To enable a
parts list to start on an odd-numbered page per ATA-100 requirements, the associated illustration page may be
preceded by a blank page.

PARTS LIST

The parts in each chapter are listed under their associated assembly drawing number. The parts under the
primary assembly number are preceded by one period (.) and shown as indented one level. When an
assembly includes subassemblies, these parts are preceded by two periods (..) and shown as indented two
levels. If additional subassemblies are required, a third or fourth level of indenture may be used.

If two or more assemblies share a large number of identical parts, these parts may be grouped together under
the drawing/part number prefix in the “Part Number” column and be shown with an “-XX” suffix. Each part
number suffix appears after the assembly description in the “Nomenclature” column, e.g., (-97, -101, -105).
Items unique to only one assembly will be labeled accordingly, e.g., (-105 only). The “Units per Assy” column
represents only the number of parts required for one assembly.

Indenture

When an OEM part is assigned a different part number by the completion center, the original manufacturer’s
part number may be shown in brackets following the item description. If an alternate item can be used as a

substitute part, it will be shown with an “A” following the item number in the “Fig. Item” column, e.g., 203A. The
word “ALTERNATE” will be placed in parentheses following the item description at the next indenture level.

Vendor codes or vendor names are provided, when available. They are shown in parentheses following an
item description in the “Nomenclature” column. The vendor code can be used to locate the vendor name,
address, and telephone number in the vendor list included in this supplement. Part numbers starting with CL,
TM, or M are assigned by Bombardier, Inc., Learjet, or Canadair. Standard parts starting with MS, AN, or NAS,
do not carry vendor codes since they are based upon Military Specifications, Army/Navy, or National Aircraft
Specifications, respectively.

INTERIOR FURNISHINGS

Some items listed in this supplement may require a special finish, plating, color, or size that is not specified in
the part number or nomenclature. When ordering parts that may fall into these categories, please refer to your
Aircraft Interior Specification to determine the particular requirement(s). If the special ordering number is not
known when this IPC is published, it will be shown as “XX” in the part number.
