CHRIS BURKE

Chris Burke or Christopher Joseph Burke, Born August 26, 1965

Chris Burke is an American actor who is best known for his character Charles “Corky”
Thatcher on the television series Life Goes On.

Burke was born with Down syndrome at a time when little was known about the disorder.
His parents were told to institutionalize him like be sent to stay in a special hospital or
home, usually for a long period but instead his parents decided to raise him at home and
nurture his talents.

He was encouraged by his supportive family to follow his dreams of being on TV and
Chris became the first person with Down syndrome to star in a weekly television series
which is entitled Life Goes On.

He has since appeared on numerous TV shows and movies and currently serves as the
National Down Syndrome Society (NDSS) Ambassador.

Chris had the faith in his own abilities and the courage to face prejudice as he pursued his
dream to become an actor.

Burke has delivered inspirational speeches around the world and continues to speak at
schools, seminars, conferences and non-profit organizations.

He has been the Goodwill Ambassador for the National Down Syndrome Society since
1994.
