Guide Question for Activity 1-Midterm

1. Central to Kant’s notion of freedom is acting freely and acting morally are one
and the same thing. Why? How? Support your answer.
- Acting freely and acting morally are the same, because a person can be
held morally responsible for an action only if they had the freedom to
choose and to act otherwise. Acts are morally right if they are done for
the right reasons. Morality is fundamentally about the reasons we have
act.

2. True freedom is dependent upon truth, and based on John’s gospel “You will
know the truth, and the truth will set you free”. What does it mean? Cite
examples of this gospel.
- True freedom is dependent upon truth. Example, you made a mistake to
others, you need to confess it to them. There will be a consequences in
your actions but this is the way that will set you free and being honest to
them have possible that they will forgive you. If you don’t confess your
mistake there is possible that they will not forgive you anymore.

3. What will happen to us if there is unlimited freedom or the absence of freedom

in our society? Is freedom absolute? Defend your answer.
- There would be total chaos and anarchy in every sphere of life, and
social order would cease to exist. Anyone who knows how foolish, selfish,
and dangerous people can be knows that giving anyone the power to do
as they please without concequence is a horrible idea. Think that giving
a man unlimited freedom Is like giving a kid a gun and teaching him how
to utilize it, because basically you’re able to do as you please without
any consequences.
Freedom is not absolute. It is a relative and subjective concept. Freedom
cannot be measured, the degree to which a person is or is not free can
only be determined through comparison and that comparison is
completely subjective.
