Purpose
The purpose of this instruction is to define the charging, testing, and starting procedures for MANTA1.0
Nodes.

Authority
Party Manager
The Party Manager has overall responsibility for the monitoring of the operation, and to ensure there
are sufficient personnel for the task, and they are trained and competent.
Chief Instrumentation
Instrument Chief or Shift leader Instrumentation has overall responsibility for monitoring of operation at
task.
Employees
PXGEO empowers and expects, any employee to initiate a STOP & STEP BACK if they consider an
operation to be unsafe, inadequately planned or un-controlled. All Employees involved in any operation
on-board the vessels/yard are responsible for the safety of their working environment as well as the work
environment of their colleagues.

EHSQ Significant Aspects

These instructions are based upon a minimum of 2 people per shift to carry out the task safely.
• Carry out a shift handover including all instrumentation staff from both shifts. Shift handover
should include: operations conducted over the previous shift, operations expected to start on
next shift, problems encountered, HSEQ issues.
• Review TRA periodically and update if new risks identified.
• Ensure that all personnel involved in the task fully understand their task roles and all safety
aspects of the task.
• PPE/Precautions: Full “Standard PPE”.
• All personnel are to be trained in accordance with the Crew Training Matrix.
• All new personnel are required to have on the job specific training conducted by the Shift Leader
or appointed mentor, recorded and submitted to HSE. New personnel are identified with the use
of the green helmet – This is in accordance with the Short Service Employee policy in place by
PXGEO.

Definition
• The Global Standard for QHSE Definitions apply to this document. In addition, the following
specific definitions apply:
• PPE - Personal Protective Equipment
• TRA -Task Risk Assessment
• Digest - Human/Manta Interface software
• DAC – Download and Charging Rack
o Each Mini Control system comprises one Download and Charging (DAC) Rack, providing
the ability to manage 18 nodes simultaneously per system.
• DAR – Digital Autonomous Recorder
• NSS - Node Storage & Service System
• MANTA – New model of Manta nodes used on crew since January 2021

Overview
Carrying out the task:
• Toolbox Meeting / Shift Change over Meeting carried out with all personnel involved in the
task/shift.
• Take over from previous shift. Follow up on DAC Log book.
• If a fault is diagnosed this is to be reported to the Shift Leader who will conduct the fault finding
measures.

General Guidelines
• Before you begin, it is critical to understand the charging scheme:
o The Trickle Chg ON will be used to keep the node fully charged. It will keep a current
charge of 0.005 mA.
o Unplugging a charging node/s without properly powering off may result in a current
spike that will damage the DAR.

Battery Voltage Charge On Charge Off

Less than 6.3V, Will trickle charge (0.7A/ Batt) Will charge at (0.7A/ Batt) until it
until it reaches 6.7v - 6.8V then reaches 6.7v then charging will
it should go into normal stop
charging mode (7A) until fully
charged.
Greater than 6.3V, Less than 8.30V Will charge normally (7A Max) Will not charge
Greater than 8.3V Will not charge Will not charge

• Check the nodes for visible damage.

• Take a photo of the nodes.
• Record the bumper number of the nodes that came from production.
• Arrange the Nodes in front of the DAC as shown in the image.

• Using the cap connector remover tool, gently remove the connector caps (counterclockwise).
• Plug the nodes accordingly and follow the connector notch as guide then rotate (clock wise).
• Manta nodes will begin to appear within 82 seconds of being plugged in. Otherwise, unplug the
cable and wait 82 seconds before reconnecting the manta node.

• Operations
Go Retrieve For a selected node or shelf of nodes will initiate the sequence defined
Chained in the Retrieve Phase operation. The operations are displayed on
operation Connects upper middle screen. Typical Retrieve operations are stop
recording, skew measurement, download data and limits. Operations
that are not permitted are locked.

• Select a Shelf
o A shelf comprises 6 nodes as per the physical layout in the DAC.

• Click “Go Retieve”

o Step STOP are displayed

o Step SKEW CHECK are displayed

o Step DOWNLOAD

o Step Limit.

• The node cell will be Green when the process is done. If the node has an error it will be highlight
with a Red error box around the node
• You can verify the status by node with the button Past Orders
• After download, you must see the message: “download finished OK” (in Past ORDERS)

• Take a screen shot and informed the QC that the nodes are successfully downloaded with any issues.
• Charge the nodes.
• Wait for the QC’s email saying that all nodes are good to redploy and once fully charge you can run the
deploy phase again.
