Worksheet 1

How strong is your heart?

Aim: To investigate the effect of physical activities on the heart rate


Materials: Stop watch, paper
Procedure:
1. Take your heart rate at the radial artery or carotid artery. Record your heart rate in
Table 1.
2. Predict your heart rate before doing a physical activity that you can select from Table
1.
3. Each student performs a physical activity for 1 minute.
4. Take your heart rate after 1 minute of physical activity. Record your heart rate in the
table.
5. Rest for 2 minutes and take your heart rate again. Record your heart in the table.
6. Draw a bar chart to represent your findings.

Discussion:

The number of heartbeat rate while sitting lower compare to rate of heartbeat after
physical activities like squatting, running on the spot, push up and jumping jack. Then, the
heartbeat rate decreases after the student rest.

Conclusion:

Physical activities effect the rate of heartbeat.
