I. OBJECTIVES
A. CONTENT STANDARD
The learner demonstrates understanding of how world literature
and other text types serve as sources of wisdom in expressing and
resolving conflicts among individuals, groups and nature; also how to use
evaluative reading, listening and viewing strategies, special speeches for
occasion, pronouns and structures of modification.
B. PERFORMANCE STANDARD
The learner skillfully delivers a speech for a special occasion
through utilizing effective verbal and non-verbal strategies and ICT
resources

Motivation
The students will be read a series of statements in a
slide presentation that will prompt them to choose between two
options.
1. Would you rather be completely bald or covered from
head to toe with hair?
2. Would you rather live in Narnia or go to school at
Hogwarts?
3. Would you rather have overly large hands or very
small feet?
4. Would you rather live without your phone for two
weeks or your computer for a month?
5. Would you rather lose your ability to speak or have to
say everything you are thinking?

Mechanics:
1. A topic for discussion will be written on the board.
2. Students are then asked to write the topic/question
down on their sheet of paper and next to their heading,
they will be asked to answer in one word – yes, no,
unsure.
3. The room will be divided into three stations
representing student’s answer. Students will be asked to
move to their chosen side.
4. One student at a time will be picked to speak and
defend his chosen side

Abstraction
ARGUMENTATIVE ESSAY
An argumentative essay uses evidence and facts to prove
whether or not a thesis is true. It presents two sides of a single
issue and covers the most important arguments for and
against.
