Reaction Paper about the Symposium on Drug Abuse Prevention with the Theme:

“Addressing Drug Challenges in Health and Humanitarian Crisis” and Calamity and

Disaster Preparedness

The symposium which was held last Saturday, 10th day of December,2022 at the

Western Leyte College Gymnasium, Ormoc City. The symposium was about the theme

“Addressing Drug Challenges in Health and Humanitarian Crisis” and Calamity and Disaster

Preparedness. The speaker who discussed about the topic was Mr. Jean Redi Briones. The

lecture was delivered well. The topics are great for it can enlighten the minds of the listeners,

it can open the eyes of the people , and to be able to give knowledge to all the audiences.

Drugs nowadays are everywhere. Men and women, old or young, some are

influenced by illegal drugs. It is mentioned that most target of this illegal drugs are youths,

due to the curiosity that arises, young people tends to try, to satisfy their curiosity. And we

all know that drug brings addiction, when you try it once, you keep on seeking for it until you

will be addicted which cause harm to a individual who uses this kind of thing. Influenced by

friends, or by the surrounding where they are living. It is easy to enter in this kind of habit,

but it’s hard to stop once your body is starting to like it. The continuous intake can cause

addiction to a person which causes severe damage to organs such as increased train on the

liver, lung disease, brain damage, and stroke.

Effective drug campaign,seminar or education is important nowadays. Conducting

this kind of symposium gives us knowledge about the bad effects of drugs in the system of a

person. Educating youths about this matter helps everyone of us to be aware about drugs.

How it affects our system, and how bad it is, as it can ruin our lives. It was discussed in the

event about the continuing mission of the public servant to keep places from the influenced

of drug. In the seminar, the prevention of illegal drugs, the effects, the consequences of

using, and the way to prevent this thing are mentioned. There are also social activities that

are discussed.

It is not all about drug prevention, effect,and awareness, but also the calamity

disaster preparedness. It is discussed about what re we going to do when a disaster occur. It

is a seminar where they tackled about the preparation we must do when a calamity occur

anytime. A seminar helps us to prepare about any calamity ,preventing and preparing things

about calamity is a best way we can do to save ourselves from danger.

I have learned a lot about the symposium that discussed about prevention,whether

about drugs or calamity. The topic was quiet interesting and full of knowledge. What we

have learned in there can be apply to everyday living. I therefore conclude that, attending

seminars about prevention gives us lots of benefit that we can apply.
