CHAPTER-II
2.1 INDUSTRY PROFILE

The Indian automobile industry is recognized as a Sunrise industry` as it has

emerged one of the fastest growing sector over last few years. India`s annual production stood at
29.08 million vehicles (including passenger vehicles, commercial vehicles, three wheelers, and
two wheelers) in FY18 as against25.33million in FY17, registering a healthy growth of
14.8%over the same period last year. As of April2018, India has about 120vehicles (all segments
including 19cars per 1000) on every 1000 people, which is expected to rise to almost 300
vehicles in next 10 years for every 1000 people. While the population (vehicle parc) of
automobiles in India is expected to surge to 404million by 2028 from 162.31 million in
April,2018.

Currently, 24.37million automobiles are added every year and it is expected to rise to
55.84 million by 2028, still much lesser than the global average vehicle penetration. India is the
5th largest car manufacturer, 7th largest commercial vehicle manufacturer and the largest
manufacturer of two wheelers in the world. It is estimated that by 2020 the automobile industry
in India will be the third largest in the World after China and USA.

India, being a prominent auto exporter, the exports stood at about 14%of the automobiles
produced annually. After declining by about 4.5% in FY17, exports witnessed a shape growth of
over 16 % in FY18.Two decades of robust growth have propelled India from being a net
importer of automobiles to a leading manufacturer and exporter of vehicles and components.

The two wheelers segment leads the Indian Automobiles market with 80%market share
owing to a growing middle class and a young population. This is followed by the passenger
vehicles (PV) segment with 14 % market shares. India is also likely to benefit from low car
penetration, emerging demographic dividend, increasing urbanization, rising income level and
consumption.

6
The top companies like Maruti Suzuki, Hyundai Motors, M&M,Tata Motors,Ashok
Leyland ,Hero Motocorp , HMSI, TVS, Bajaj Auto and Piaggo etc.

The automobile industry is one of the pillar industries of a nation`s economy with its long
industrial chain, wide employment and great consumption pulling power. With the development
of automotive industry, high efficiency, high precision and high stability processing of complex
key auto components have become an effective measure to shorten the production cycle and
improve the efficiency and competitiveness of enterprises. CNC auto parts , multiple automotive.

CNC machining technology has been widely used in modern automobile processing
manufacturing.

The traditional automobile processing industry mainly focuses on scale and efficiency. With the
advent of numerical control technology and its wide application in the automotive industry, this
tradition has been broken, thus achieving multiple categories, small batches, small scales , and
high efficiency .In term of manual manufacturing , Automotive CNC machining and CNC
turning services have laid the foundation for the standardization of CNC auto parts
manufacturing and the improvement of the production quality and actual equipment rate of
domestic auto parts. CNC technology can provide complete automation solution for the key
automobile components manufacturing.

7
Based on the monitoring and remote service of industrial internet and processing, the processing
data is processed, and then the virtual processing and the program code detection are carried out.
Perpetual and self- learning, adaptive , self - optimizing function to achieve high quality
processing of workpieces , and then use industrial robots and CNC machine tool online batch
detection methods to achieve the wide application of CNC lathe in high – efficiency flexible
processing and mass production of CNC automotive parts.

In additional to numerical control technology, virtual reality control technology, flexible

manufacturing system, and the computer aided manufacturing technologies are also widely used
in automobile manufacturing processes.

The automobile industry in India was the fifth largest in the world 2020. Several Indian
automobile manufacturers have spread their operations globally as well, asking for more
investments in the Indian automobile sector by MNCs.

According to the recent data released by the society of Indian Automobiles Manufactures
(SIAM) India`s scooter and motorcycle manufacturers have registered 4 percent growth during
April-November, 2012. The global and Indian manufacturers are focusing their efforts to develop
innovative products, technologies and supply chains. India is one of the key markets for global
manufacturers for hybrid and electrical vehicles, which is the new development in automobile
sector. With a turnover of almost $59Million US Dollars, Automobile industry provides
employment to 13 million people in the Indian work – class.

The trend of the automotive industry to mergers and large-scale organization, and to a
situation in which each producer could affect but not control the market, continued and
unchecked.

The growth of Auto motive industry is important for growth of economy, particularly
because the automotive industry has strong multiplier effect. The indirect employment includes
stations mechanics, loaders and cleaners of commercial vehicles, institutions financing purchase
of vehicles and people who drive commercial vehicles and hired vehicles.

20
PRODUCT PROFILE

1. TRASMISSION ASSY
The arrangement of such parts that transmits the power of the engine to the driving wheels of
a motor vehicles

2. KICK START MECHANISM

Most two wheelers come with both kick-start and auto start features. Kick – starting
prompt the crankshaft to rotate , which in turn pushes the piston against the piston head ,
generating friction .It builds up pressure and a mixture of fuel and air pumped in from the valves
get ignited. The engine thus comes to life and the bike starts. The idea is to get the mixture of
fuel and air in the engine motor at the proper pressure to get the engine started. A choke is used
for this in the carburetion system, but once the engine starts, there is no further use of the choke.

21
3. AXLES &SWING ARMS

This was a revolutionary invention in automotive suspension, allowing driven (powered) wheels
to follow uneven road surfaces independently, thus enabling the vehicles wheels to maintain
better road contact and holding; plus each wheels reduced unsprung weight means their
movements have less impact on the vehicle as a whole.

4. REAR SPROCKETS

Sprockets are used in bicycle, motorcycle, tracked vehicles, and other machinery either to
transmit rotary motion between two shafts where gears are unsuitable or to imparts linear motion
to a track, tape, etc. sprockets may be found in the bicycle , in which the pedal shaft carries a
large sprockets –wheel , which drives a chain , which in turn , drivers a small sprockets axle of
the rear wheel.

22
5. AXLE BUSHES

Axle Bushes is the cushioning between joints in a cars suspension system. The bushes are
designed to absorb the shocks of going over bumps and divots in the road, so they reduce
overtime.

6. CRANK &CAM SPROCKETS

The axel of the cam sprocket is connected to the camshafts. As the sprockets turns around, it
causes the camshaft to rotate as well. This rotation of the crankshaft, where linear energy is
converted into rotation Energy .The proper timing between the camshaft and the crankshafts
allows the engine to run.

23
7. FRONT SPROCKETS

The transmission output shaft is the one that connects to the front sprocket (driver) and makes it
rotate. The front sprocket transfers the power to rear wheel via chain and rear sprockets. So
basically these sprockets define the way power of engine is transferred to rear wheel.

8. BRAKE CAM

Brake camshafts are used in simplex drum brakes. They serve to transfer the power generated by
the pneumatic brake cylinder, via a slack adjuster, to both brake shoes. Spare parts brand brake
camshafts are made of high-quality tempered steel. By the inductive hardening of the z-cams, the
bearing seats of the brake shafts bushing and the serration, a long service life is guarantee.

24
9. DOG GEARS

A dog gears is a type of clutch that couples two rotating shafts or other rotating components not
by friction but by interference or clearance fit. The two parts of the clutch are designed such that
one will push the other, causing both to rotate at the same speed and will never slip.

10. BRAKE ROD ASSEMBLY

The brake rod typically connect between a point on the brake assembly and an anchor point on
the landing gear, such as the shock strut or bogie beam.

25
11. BALL BEARING RACES

The bearing has outer and inner races and a set of balls. Each race is a ring with groove where
the balls set. The groove is usually shaped so the ball is slightly loose fit in the groove. Thus, in
principle, the ball contacts each race at a single points. However, a load on an infinitely small
point would cause infinitely high contact pressure.

Outer bearing Races

Inner bearing Races

12. ALL TYPE OF SPLINED BUSH

Splines are grooves or teeth on a shaft that match up with grooves or teeth on another
components to transmit torque .Splines are generally used when both linear and rotational motion
is desired.

26
13. TAPPET SCREW AND NUT

Tappet screw would be the little ball ended adjuster screw in the valve rocker. It is an adjuster in
the rocker arm that allows the valve clearance to be adjusted to maintain the valve to rocker
clearance in the valve train.

14. MOTOR CYCLE MUFFLER

The motor cycle muffler aim in dampening vehicle emissions and engine noise . They are made
of steel and are coated with aluminum to provide protection from the heat and are chemicals
released from the exhaust system. Mufflers are used mainly to dissipate the loud sounds created
by the engine`s pistons and valves.
