1. State the sources of heat generation in machining. How can machine

temperature be controlled?

2. Define normal rake angle, back rake angle, inclination angle, orthogonal
clearance angle and approach angle.

3. Derive the relations between rake angles in the ORS system and ASA
system in tool geometry of a single point cutting tool. Also, find the side
rake and back rake angle of a single point turning tool with a tool
geometry in ORS system is 10-0-5-8-20-90-0(mm).

4. What is meant by Built-Up-Edge formation? Differentiate between

Orthogonal and Oblique cutting operations.

5. Describe the geometry of straight fluted plain milling cutter with a neat
sketch.

6. Why does chip become thicker after machining? Illustrate with a suitable
example.
