Unit 17:Position and movement

Class : grade 7
School : Al Madar private school .
Academic year : 2022-2023
Teacher : Ms.Najiba Aouini
Content :

1. Objectives.
2. Introduction
3. Reflection
4. Rotation
5. Translation
6. Conclusion
7. Ending up and end of unit review
1.Objectives:
 At the end students will be able to :
o Transform 2D points and shapes by a reflection in a given line
o Rotation of and object about a given poiny
o Translate and object.
o Recognise and use spatial relationship In two dimensions.
o Draw accurate mathematical diagrams.
o Communicate finding effectively.
2.Introduction
 Transformations are changes done in the shapes on a coordinate plane
by reflection , translation or rotation . Transformations are important in Math
to mainly know the congruence and similarity of figures in a plane.
 Starting shape known as object .
 Ending shape known as image .
3.Reflection
in a reflection, every point is same from a
fixed line. This line is known as mirror line
sometimes called the line of symmetry In a
reflection, the Image is the same size as
the Pre-Image.

Example 1 : course book page 163 Q17.1

To remember : when you draw a reflection you have to

use a mirror line
Example2:page163 n4
4.Rotation
"Rotation" means turning around a center.
The distance from the center to any point on the
shape stays the same. Every point makes a circle
around the center. In a rotation, the Pre-Image
and Image are the same size.

 To remember : when you draw a rotation you need to know :

 the number of degrees.
 the direction ( clockwise or anticlockwise
 the coordinates of the center of rotation .
Example3: (course book page 165 Q17.2(1-4)(using
degree or fraction of turn
5.Translation
"Translation" simply means moving. In a translation,
every point of the shape must move the same
distance and in the same direction. In a
translation, the size of the Image is the same size
as the Pre-Image.

To remember: when you translate a shape you can

move it right or left up or down , keeping the same
size and shape .

Example5:CB page 167 Q4
