INTRODUCTION TO ASEXUAL

AND SEXUAL
REPRODUCTION

 2ND QUARTER - LESSON 8

PERPETUATION OF LIFE
 Perpetuation comes from the
word PERPETUATE which means
for something to continue. Thus,
perpetuation of life means to
continue life.
 Differentiate asexual from sexual
reproduction in terms of:
1. number of individuals involved;
2. similarities of offspring to parents

PLANT REPRODUCTION

ASEXUAL SEXUAL

VEGETATIVE PROPAGATION FERTILIZATION

 Plants reproduce in two very different ways:

 Sexual reproduction: involves the production of

seeds and fruits from specialized cells of two
plants.

 Asexual or vegetative reproduction: occurs

when a 'parent' plant grows new plants from its
roots, stems, or leaves.
 formation of offspring by the fusion of
gametes (male and female sex cells)

mainly happens in angiosperms or

also known as flowering plants
 is natural “cloning”.
 Parts of the plant, such as leaves or
stems, produce roots and become
an independent plant
 2 main types: apomixis and
vegetative reproduction.
