Title:
Princess Mononoke
Plot:
Ashitaka, a confident young warrior, was infected and afflicted with a
fatal curse while defending the people in his village from a raging boar
god named Nago. He must travel to the western forests in order to
escape death. Once there, he becomes involved in a horrible conflict
between people and forest animals, along with their companion,
Princess Mononoke. Ashitaka’s attempts to mediate a settlement
between the humans and the animals only make the situation worse.
Literary Approaches:
 Archetypal, this story is about more than just the conflict between
humans and forest creatures; it is also about how we treat our
environment so poorly.
 Feminist criticism, despite being a girl, Princess Mononoke led
those forest animals in a fight against those humans who are
ruining our environment.
Review:
This story focuses more on how we, humanity, are ruining our own
world than just the conflict between humans and forest creatures. We
are the ones destroying our environment and doing nothing to make it a
more lovely place for us to live. The message of this movie is to
safeguard our own planet because we are the ones who are destroying
it, despite the fact that this is not the world we once loved. If we’re just
going to destroy our own home, how will future generations live in a
ruined and unlovely place?
