TERM II, Pre Board-1
Time Allowed: 2 hours Maximum Marks: 40

General Instructions:
1. The question paper consists of 14 questions divided into 3 sections A, B, C.
2. All questions are compulsory.
3. Section A comprises of 6 questions of 2 marks each. Internal choice has been provided in two
questions.
4. Section B comprises of 4questions of 3 marks each. Internal choice has been provided in one
question.
5. Section C comprises of 4 questions of 4 marks each. An internal choice has been provided in
one question. It contains two case study based questions.

Section A

1. If the 20th term of an AP exceeds its 15th term by 10, find the common difference.
OR
Find the 11th term from the last of the AP: 27,23,19….. ,-65.
2. Find the value of m if the quadratic equation mx2 +2x +m = 0 has two equal roots.
3. In the given figure, PA and PB are tangents to the circle with centre O. If PB = 6cm and
∠APB = 60°, then find the length of AB and measure of ∠OAB,

4. A cone of height 24cm and base radius 6cm made up of modelling clay is reshaped into a
sphere. Find the diameter of the sphere.
5. In a frequency distribution, if a = assumed mean = 55, ∑f = 100, and ∑ƒd = -30, then
find the mean of the distribution.
6. Determine two consecutive multiples of 3 whose product is 270.

OR
2 2 2 2 2
Solve for x : p x + (p – q ) x – q = 0
Section B

7. Find the median of the following distribution.

8. Construct a pair of tangents to a circle of radius 4.2cm from a point which is at a distance
double its radius from the centre. Measure the lengths of the tangents.
9. Find the mode of the given distribution. If the median of the distribution is 62, find its
mean.

10. A man standing on the deck of a ship, which is 10 m above water level, observes the
angle of elevation of the top of a hill as 60° and the angle of depression of the base of the
hill as 30°. Find the distance of the hill from the ship and the height of the hill.
OR
The angle of elevation of the top of a building from the foot of the tower is 30° and the
angle of deviation of the top of the tower from the foot of the building is 45°. If the tower
is 30 m high, find the difference in height of the building and the tower. (✓3=1.732)

Section C

11. A toy is in the form of a hemisphere surmounted by a right circular cone of the same base
radius as that of the hemisphere. If the radius of the base of the cone is 21cm and its
volume is ⅔ of the volume of the hemisphere, calculate the height of the cone and the
surface area of the toy. (π = 22/7)
12. Prove that tangent to a circle, which is an intercept of two parallel tangents to the circle,
subtends right angle at the centre.
OR
2
A triangle ABC of area 42 cm is circumscribing a circle of radius 2cm and the lengths
of the segments AP and BP into which side AB is divided by the point of contact P are 3
cm and 4 cm respectively Find the lengths of the sides AC and BC

13. Case Study -1

A group of students of class X visited India Gate on an education trip. The teacher and
students had interest in history as well. The teacher narrated that India Gate, official name
Delhi Memorial, originally called All-India War Memorial, monumental sandstone arch
in New Delhi, dedicated to the troops of British India who died in wars fought between
1914 and 1919.The teacher also said that India Gate, which is located at the eastern end
of the Rajpath (formerly called the Kingsway), is about 138 feet (42 metres) in height.
Initially they could see the top of the India Gate tower at an angle of elevation of 30°. To
get a clearer and closer view, they walked towards the tower till the distance between the
foot of the tower to their final position became equal to the height of the tower.
(i) Make a labelled figure on the basis of the given information and
calculate the angle of elevation to the top of the tower from the final
position.
(ii) Find the distance between their initial and final positions.

14. Case Study-2

Mehak wants to participate in a 200m race. She can currently run that distance in 50
seconds and with each day of practice, it takes her 2 seconds less per day. She wants to
complete the race in 26 seconds in order to break the current record and win.

(i) Form an A.P representing the above situation hence find the number of days she needs
to practice to accomplish her target?
(ii) Considering only her best timing on track for each day of practice, find the total
minutes she ran on the track to reach her target.
