Dell EMC PowerMax

Power-down/Power-up Procedures
Rev. 3.0
August 2021
Under normal circumstances powering down and powering up a PowerMax array should be performed by Dell EMC personnel or
certified partners only.

This document describes how to power down and power up a PowerMax 2000 or PowerMax 8000 array. A PowerMax array
is designed to stay powered up in all situations. It is recommended to call the Dell EMC Service Support Center for assistance
before performing a power-down procedure. If the array needs repair, only qualified Dell EMC personnel or partners familiar with
the array and their safety procedures for electrical equipment should access components inside the cabinet.

CAUTION: Do NOT unplug the power cords when performing the power down procedure.

CAUTION: If eNAS is implemented on the system, there will be no access to the NAS File Services while the system is
powered off.

PowerMax power off procedure
Follow these steps to power off a PowerMax 2000 or PowerMax 8000 array.

CAUTION: Do NOT unplug the power cables when performing the power off procedure.

● Unless it is an emergency situation, Dell EMC Customer Engineers (CEs) should perform a routine shutdown using the
Simplified SymmWin Shutdown script.
● CEs should check with the customer to determine if the system is part of an SRDF/Metro vWitness environment before
running the script. If it is, the customer must ensure that Bias is applied to the system that is not being powered off before
the CE runs the script.

○ See the Solutions Enabler SRDF Family User Guide for your version of Solutions Enabler:
1. Go to https://www.dell.com/support/search.
2. In the Search Support box, enter Solutions Enabler SRDF Family User Guide.
● Ensure it is safe to power off any third party equipment that might be present in the rack.
1. From the rear of the system, pull out all circuit breakers (1-12) in the rack. The system now begins the automated power off
process.
2. Wait until all fans stop spinning.
3. The power off procedure is now complete.
NOTE: If the system will be powered down for more than three months, turn the SPS color wheel from green to yellow to
disengage the SPS batteries from the SPS tray.
