1. (a) Hardware is any physical component of computer system. For example,

the monitor.

(b) Operating system is a computer software that manages computer hardware and

application software and provide common services for a computer. An example of

an operating system is Windows 7.

(c) Application software is a program in stalled in a computer that is designed to

perform a specific task. For example Microsoft Office.

2. (a) The three functions of an operating system are to:

(i) manage computer resources such as central processing unit, disk drives

and printers. This is to allow the application software to communicate

with hardware.

(ii) Control storage operations. It allows the user to create files, writing the

data of the files as well as copying content to another place or folder.

(iii) Provide recovery of the system when the system gets damaged due to

some hardware failure. It corrects the system and also provide with

backup facility.

(b) Two benefits of computer networking are:

(i) Resource Sharing –. A computer network provides a cheaper alternative by

the provision of resource sharing. A number of computers can be

inter-connected using a network, and just one modem and printer can

provide the services to several users.

(ii) File Sharing - computer networking allows file sharing and file

access. A user sitting at one workstation that is connected to a network

can easily see files present on another workstation. This saves the user from

carrying storage devices such as discs and flashes every time data needs to

be transported from one system to another.

(c) The suitable application of:

(i) Barcode reader is on the point of sale.

(ii) OMR is in Education.

3. (a) (i) The difference between a header and a footer as they are used in MS

WORD is that the header is at the top of the page while the footer is at the

bottom of the page.

(ii) The difference between page border and borders as they are use in MS

WORD is that a page border is a line or a uniform pattern that surrounds

right round the margins of the page while borders is a tab from which a

page border is extracted.

(iii) The difference between portrait and landscape as they are used in

MSWORD portrait is that portrait is the page orientation when it is taller

than it is wide while landscape is when the page is wider than it is taller.

(b) The insert tab is the one that is clicked when one wants to find page number.

(c) The font type and font size that is recommended for assignments and CDS at

B.T.T.C is Times New Roman and font size 12.

4. (a) Two uses of excel in education are:

(i) preparing lesson plan.

(ii) to make calculations.

(b)(i) The difference between the delete key and backspace key as they are used in

MS EXCEL is that the delete key deletes text to the right of the cursor while the

backspace key delete text to the left of the cursor.

(ii) The difference between a formula and a function as they are used in MS EXCEL

is that a formula is an expression which calculates the value of the cell that can be

created by the user while a function is a pre-set formula.

(iii) the difference between an absolute cell reference and a relative reference cell as

they are used in MS EXCEL is that an absolute cell reference remain constant on

matter where formula is copied while a relative cell reference changes when a

formula is copied to another cell.

(c) Five functions that are commonly use in MS EXCEL are:

(i) logical function

(ii) text function

(iii) financial function

(iv) statistical function

(iv) date and time function

5. (a) Four type of slide layout are:

(i) Title slide

(ii) The title only slide

(iii) Title and text slide

(iv) Title and two column text slide

(b) Three educational application of PowerPoint are:

(i) To allow teachers to deliver their lessons more faster than the usual way of

lecturing and writing on the board.

(iii) To enable learners to create their own presentations and equip them with

skills on how to use visual aids while working on their presentations.

(iv) To enhance educator’s presentations with different types of media

including images, sounds and animations thus enhancing the learners'

ability to retain what they have been taught.

(c) The function key that is used to run or show a PowerPoint presentation is F5.

6. (a) Three services offered by the internet are:

(i) Communication.

(ii) Information retrieval.

(iii) Support services.

(b) A browser is software program created as a simplified means to present and

explore content including pictures, videos and web pages. Two examples of browsers

are Mozilla Fire Fox and Microsoft Edge.

(c) (i) URL means Uniform Resource Locator.
