IRA; Good day everybody we are from CLGB1 and today we will be discussing how to cite a
printed book.

-slide 2-

DEAN: But first, we shall understand what is a printed book or print book.
Print Book is a hard bounded, physical book printed on paper. It is what we usually use
on a day to day basis. What we use in school as well as see in the library.

-slide 3-

IRA: Now, what you are seeing on your screens are the components of a citation for a print
book. We have the title, author’s name, chapter title, publishing date, page’s number,
publication information, and book editor. For this instance the title, year of publication, author’s
name and the publisher or publication information are the most essential. The other components
would just depend on what is stated in the book.

-slide 4-

DEAN: So where can we see these components? What part of the book are they stated? Of
course the title of the book as well as the author’s name is stated on the cover page. The other
information such as the publisher, the publishing date and editors might be seen on the second
page of the book. The page number and chapter title are seen on the page of reference.

-slide 5-

IRA: What is the structure of the citation? We have two structures on how you can cite a print
book. The first one is more common while the other is complex. The format for the citation is the
following : the author’s name. Last Name first, then initial of the First Name. Then the year of
publication inside a rounded brace. Next is the Title in italics and lastly the publisher.

DEAN: On the other hand the complex structure is composed of the following: the author’s
name with the same format, Last name then initial of the first name. Next is the open and close
parenthesis year of publication, followed by the chapter title, book editors same format with the
author’s name, book title in italics, page number inside a rounded braces and publisher.

IRA: One thing to remember while citing a printed book is the number of authors. It is a must to
write all of the names of the author following the format even if it’s 20.
-slide 6-

DEAN: Here is an example, for our english book we have:

(read the powerpoint)
As you have heard and seen, we’ve used the complex structure for all of the
components needed are given. Also, the book has two authors.

-slide 7-

IRA: Next example is our math book. The citation for this book is:
(read the powerpoint)
For this instance no book editors are found, that's why they are not stated.

DEAN: We are almost done with discussing so we are now gonna move on with the activity.

-slide8-

IRA: You can see the components of the book on your screens. The book is the image you can
see on your right side. You have 3 minutes to finish this.

(after 3 mins.)

-slide 9-

DEAN: We hope most of you are already done. This is the proper structure of citation for the
book The Time keeper.

IRA: If you have observed the structure we used is the common one
In all citations for print books are technically easy for there are just certain pages or places
where you can find the needed components. If you know the proper structure then you will be
fine

-slide 10-

DEAN: Again, we are from CLGB 1, Thank You for listening.
