NARUTO WHIRLPOOL

With a whirlpool in the foreground and a serene landscape of mountain and seashore in
the backdrop, framed by the water, this print depicts waves smashing and foaming over rocks.
In the Straits of Naruto, which separate the islands of Shikoku and Awaji, the scene shows the
tide changing. As the tide changed, water trapped between rocks would create tense whirlpools
and waves. Unusually for a landscape, the print is in ban [portrait] format, which boost up the
tension and dynamic and draws attention to the whirlpool filling the lower third of the picture.
From this vantage point, the rocks are huge and take up the middle third, while the foaming
water that erupts from them frames the landscape beyond. This printing creates an idea to
communicate , spark conversations, and bring about change.
