Solving Onestep Inequalities with + and (L2.2)
Solving Onestep Inequalities with x and ÷ (L2.3)
*Have Writing Inequalities Wkst hmwk out and ready to 100/80/50 check
*Copy hmwk from hmwk board
*Check Materials, Reminders, and Agenda boards
In general, to solve an inequality, you treat it the same as an equation!
*For onestep inequalities, one only needs to follow steps 58.*
4X < 8
1) Distribute and/or combine like terms (if possible).
2) Circle the term that contains the variable and the inequality symbol. 4X < 8
3) Get rid of anything else on that side of the inequality symbol through inverse They multiplied by 4, so we divide both
operations. sides of the inequality symbol by 4.
4) Repeat as needed until the variable term is alone on one side of the inequality
symbol. 4X < 8
*5) Circle just the variable and the inequality symbol themselves. 4 4
*6) Get rid of anything else in that term through inverse operations.
*7) Ideally, bring the variable to the left of the inequality symbol for easier graphing. X < 2
*8) Box your answer.

The only other thing you need to know....
Remember, to divide by a
fraction, multiply by its
reciprocal!
÷ 3/4 x 4/3
If one needs to multiply or divide by a negative number, one needs to rotate the
inequality symbol (but not the whole problem).
This is not every time
you SEE a negative, just
if you are multiplying or
dividing by a negative!

(100/80/50 check next class)
We will practice this more next class with a
foldable when we work on solving multistep
inequalities using the same steps!
