discuss your results comprehensively. You may also use graphical representations such as
graphs to support your discussions.
1. The table below shows the no. of students in each year group at a school.
Year Group 7 8 9 10 11
The Professor is carrying out a survey for his Research. He uses a stratified sample of 60
students according to the year group.
Calculate the number of year 11 students that should be in his sample. The margin of error
is 5%.
CONCLUSION:
First, compute for the Sample Size using 5 % margin of error using Slovin’s formula.
n= N c
1 + Ne2
n = 650 n
1 + 650 (0.05)2
= 650 n
2.625
= 247.6 ≈ 248
Second, to get the stratified sample of 60 students according to the year group.
For Year 11 = 60 X 50 = 12
248
Therefore, the number of year 11 students that should be in his sample is 12

2. A small village has a population of 400. The population is classified by age as shown in
the table below.
Age (Years) 0-12 13-24 25-40 41-60 61 and up
Denver plans a stratified sample of 50 for his research with a confidence coefficient of
95%.
Calculate the no. of people that should be sampled from each age group.

3. There are three (3) age groups in a competition. The table below shows the no of
competitors in each age group.
Lisbon wants to do a survey of the competitors. She uses a stratified sample of exactly 50
competitors according to each age group.
Work out the number of competitors in each age group that should be in her stratified
sample of 50. The margin of error is 3%.
CONCLUSION:
First, compute for the Sample Size using 3 % margin of error using Slovin’s formula.
