EXERCISE #02

“My Artistic Experience”

I grew up in a family of artists. My dad is one and so with my brother. But if I talk

about my experiences about art, I will start then from the very beginning. At first, art was

actually just a hobby for me, but then I did some detailed research on it and found a

whole new world. I learned from my experience that art is like an emotion, an

expression and a deep connection between an artist and its audience. After

understanding this thing, I realized that I should also start it myself.

I bought a canvas and some acrylic paints and started making some simple

paintings. At first, as a beginner I failed, although I was born with this optimistic attitude,

and I do believe in myself, so I tried again and again. For me, all the things you do with

a glimpse of hard work and focus you will get success in the end and another thing is

that, in art you should always have an allowance of perseverance and patience.

In my heart, art is actually all about communication too. It doesn’t have to be

clear, precise, or even relevant, it just has to be something the artist intends to convey,

even if that communication is “look at how pretty this is.” Perhaps, experience in art

means two things to me, it is about the things you’ve done, seen, and felt and have

given some thought to expressing, and this experience itself gives art more power to

communicate. And the second one is skills are developed not only to manipulate your

tools as an artist, but to make them part of your expressive processes, and that usually

takes repetition and effort over time.

My philosophy on art is that it is any work that expresses a piece of oneself. Based on

this philosophy, any expression of oneself by its very basic nature is based on one’s

experiences. And that experiences build who that individual is. When creating art, a little piece

of that gets exposed and as you get a little glimpse into your psyche, and your experiences, it

then molded you into who you are.

Furthermore , to me, art is my favorite way to escape reality, to express myself and

it’s something that helps me take my mind off things, such as the ones that are

stressing me out at that specific moment. It’s been like that since I was little, even

though when I first started I wasn't really good at it, but I didn't stop because I liked it, I

liked the way I would see an improvement at the end, comparing the new drawing to the

rest of those from previous days. These past few days I’ve actually felt like through

doing arts, I can actually showcase my “talent” as it is the one thing, I have polished the

most.
