B. Introduction/Simple Review Directions: The students should be able to enumerate the effective

Questions:

1. What are the effective communications skills that you need to


apply when communicating with others?
2. What are your own strategies to communicate effectively?
C. Motivation PLANE TICKET

Directions: The teacher will give a plane ticket to the students and will
ask the following questions.

Questions:

1. Given a plane ticket, what place would you like to visit?


2. Why do you want to visit that place?

D. Development of the Lesson The teacher will connect the answers of the students to the new lesson

Teaching Strategies
Cooperative learning, Socratic method, Inductive method

a. ACTIVITY Directions: The teacher will ask the students some questions in relation
to the previous activity.

Questions:

1. Being in that place, you will encounter different people with


different backgrounds, what do you think are the difficulties that
you will encounter when you are already in that place?
2. How are you going to communicate with the people in that
place? How will you make them understand you? What will you
do to understand them?

b. ANALYSIS

Directions: The teacher will consolidate all of the answers of the


students that lead to the main topic which is intercultural
communication.

Intercultural Communication- defined as the sharing of meanings


between individuals from distinct cultural environment

Intercultural Competence- it means that a person can affirm others’


avowed identities.
To be competent in communicating with others with different
backgrounds, xenocentrism and ethnocentrism should be avoided.

Ethnocentrism- having based on the idea that your own culture is


better or more important than others (Merriam Webster dictionary)

Xenocentrism- think that your culture is inferior to others.

Components of Intercultural Communication Competence

1. Context- place, people, and situation.


2. Appropriateness- behaviors are acceptable and proper for the
expectations of any given culture.
3. Effectiveness- the behaviors that lead to the desired outcome
being achieved.
4. Knowledge- the vast information you have to have on the
person’s culture. This is important to interpret culture-general
and culture- specific knowledge.
● Culture-specific knowledge- refers to knowing particular
characteristics that belong generally to members of a
certain culture.
● Culture –general knowledge- is concerned with
dimensions or frameworks that can be used to describe
and compare all cultures.
5. Motivation- a goal or plan that directs your behaviour.
