TASK 1: NETWORK OF COMPONENTS

1. Sight your industry’s indirect and direct network of components. (category 1,2,3)

The food service industry front of the house operations has three categories of
indirect and direct network of components. The first category is called the direct
providers which are businesses that are associated with restaurants. They provide
services and products directly consumed or purchased by the customers.

The second category is the support services. They lend support directly to the
direct providers and indirectly to the consumers. This category includes specialized
services such as contract food services and food suppliers that provide goods and
services for both customers and organizations that sell to consumers.

The third category is the tourism developmental organizations. It includes

planners, government agencies, financial institutions, real estate developers, and
training institutions which are more complex and broader. It affects directly to the direct
providers, indirectly to the consumers, and both directly and indirectly to the support
services.

2. Explain how/why they are part of the category. Itemize them per paragraph.

Category 1: Direct Providers

● Food service industry includes restaurants, fast food chains, and food services
inside hotels or airports. They are directly providing food for travelers to purchase
and eat. Restaurants such as Maria Kucina Familia & 21 Restaurant, fast food
chains like McDonald's & KFC, and lastly, food services inside hotels namely
L'Sea in L'Fisher Hotel or airports particularly Kuppa in Bacolod-Silay Airport are
some of the examples of direct providers.

Category 2: The Support Services

● Our industry needs support services for without them we cannot directly provide
or make our foods without enough supplies and ingredients. We have contractual
agreements with companies who deliver meats, vegetables, utensils, and many
more to provide the best quality of dining experience. All Food Asia Inc. &
Judphilan Foods Incorporation are such companies that deliver meat, Pacifica
Agrivet Supplies Inc. & 4J Rice and Corn Supplier Inc for fruits and vegetables,
and lastly, companies that supply and deliver dining materials namely Houston
Home Depot & Hacienda Crafts Company Inc.They are some of the best support
service that provide the best goods for our industry.

Category 3: Tourism Developmental Organization

● Food industry also relies on the Tourism Developmental Organization. In order to
make our restaurants legal, we need to connect with our government agencies
and fulfill requirements before officially opening our businesses. Examples of the
government agencies are Food and Drug Administration (FDA), Department of
Trade and Industry (DTI), Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO), and also the
Bureau of Internal Revenue (BIR). We also need real estate developers to fully
plan our buildings with utmost safety for our customers. Some of the famous real
estate developers are Ayala Land, Megaworld Corporation, SM Prime Holdings,
Filinvest Land Inc. and etc.

TASK 2: COMPONENTS SUPPLY

1. Identify and describe an example of a business in your industry that is related to the four
supply components.

Components of Supply

McDonald's has offered franchise possibilities to entrepreneurs that share the same vision, goal,

and values of offering outstanding tasting, high-quality fast food for more than 50 years.

McDonald's started giving franchises to local businessmen in the Philippines. As a result, in

1981, Dr. George T. Yang opened the first McDonald's restaurant in the Philippines, in Morayta,

Manila. Since then, the company's network has expanded to include approximately 300 franchised

outlets and over 100 franchisees, many of whom have been in the McDonald's family for five to

fifteen years. McDonald's had built stores in the Visayas (Cebu City) and Mindanao by 1992.

(Cagayan de Oro City). The main goal of McDonald's front of house is to give amazing meals and

the finest customer experience and satisfaction to the Filipino community. Furthermore, the

restaurant's vision includes aspiring to be the best option for cuisine and dining experiences, the
ideal employment and a socially responsible business, and the first to adapt to the changing needs

and lifestyle of the Filipino family. The establishment upholds fundamental characteristics such as

honesty, "malasakit," customer-driven, teamwork, and excellence when it comes to values.

McDonald's emphasizes moral uprightness and upholding the standards of one's position and

profession via responsibility, honesty, and trustworthiness. As a result, they highlight the need of

putting the demands of consumers at the core of corporate strategy. Through intelligent,

purposeful activities, they want to exceed the requirements and desires of both internal and

external consumers. They also show "Malasakit," or concern, for their clients, employees,

business, and neighborhood. Finally, the institution emphasizes the need of working as a team to

achieve the company's goals and constantly provide the best results every day.

Natural Resources:
McDonald's remains alert to their negative effect and works hard to minimize emission of such

gasses. Therefore, they have adopted sustainable strategies such as the use of renewable

sources of energy, designing its buildings to reduce emissions to the environment and

management of its energy consumption. Since 2020, Mcdonalds have continued to substantially

achieve supporting deforestation-free supply chains across our primary commodities: beef, soy

for chicken feed, palm oil, coffee and fiber for guest packaging. In aggregate, 97.7% of these

priority commodities supported deforestation-free supply chains in 2021. Approximately 82.7% of

their packaging materials and 96.8%1 of primary fiber packaging comes from recycled or certified

sources. They are aiming for 100% certified, recycled or renewable guest packaging materials by

the end of 2025.

Infrastructure:
McDonald's infrastructure is complex, with advanced IT while also ensuring green operations. The

firm strives to create environmentally friendly restaurants for its consumers as well as workplaces

for its staff. The whole process mirrors the company's sustainability objectives. Green and Good,

a McDonald's program based in the Philippines, was established to identify sustainable and

alternative business alternatives. They are committed to doing more to safeguard the environment

by incorporating eco-friendly concepts into their Green and Good stores. McDonald's Corporation,

2022). Materials used include reclaimed woods, which are repurposed hardwood for exterior

finishes; Rainwater Harvesting Tak, which recycles rainwater collected for general cleaning use

of the store, saving at least 6000L annually; Green Walls, which are panels of plants attached to

the walls and serve as natural air filters and noise barriers; Ecopavers and Ecobricks, which are

made from recycled plastic for walkways and

walls; eSakay and eCharging, which serve as E-bike charging stations.

Superstructure:

The above ground facility services such as airport buildings, passenger traffic terminals, hotels,

motels, resorts, restaurants, shopping centers, places of entertainment, museums, stores and

similar structures. Mcdonalds also have superstructures like their Mcdonalds’ entertainment area

for birthdays and events. A McDonald's PlayPlace is the perfect example for this. It is an

amusement commercial playground attached to a McDonald's restaurant that features play areas

such as tube mazes, slides, ball pits, and video games, as well as tables for eating, that is used

to entertain customers, especially the kids. Another superstructure is the McCafé is a coffee-

house-style food and beverage chain, owned by McDonald's. Conceptualized and launched in

Melbourne, Australia, in 1993, and introduced to the public with help from McDonald's CEO

Charlie Bell and then-chairman and future CEO James Skinner, the chain
reflects a consumer trend towards espresso coffees.

Transportation:

Customers frequently purchase their meals at the counter and then sit down to dine at a table, but

they are also given the option of ordering food to go. As a result, in certain situations, the

restaurant's tables were insufficient since they had become full, and customers may take their

orders through the drive-thru, counter, McDo PH app, or delivery apps such as GrabFood,

Foodpanda, and Maxim. McDelivery is a delivery service offered by McDonald's that consumers

may request using a phone number or an app. They can communicate and regulate the quantity

of orders coming in at once this way. Furthermore, the most common delivery services

associated with McDonald's are Foodpanda and GrabFood.
